Is the Seminole Tour still Going?

I have not heard anything about it, was a good tour and I hope they are still going to have it for the players. We all know that they are great supporters of the game. American pool will be losing out if they are no longer doing it, pro pool players are going to have a tough 2012 I think.

There was a rumor that there would be several fewer tournaments in 2012... I am hoping there were not alluding to the fact that the seminole tour is no longer a going interest... Might go a long way to explaining why Corey was a no show at Turning Stones or chalk that up to coincidence???

Well I guess the biggest question's are still the same : Who exactly is the ABP and who exactly is speaking for them. Until these questions are answered its SSDD.

Something else I wonder is what exactly is a "United States ABP Ranking Points event" and why would anyone care about spending the time and money to do one? Evidently the ABP isn't doing any so it makes me wonder why they expect someone else to. I won't even get into the conflict of interest aspect of having a promoter sitting on the board of a players organization with no way for other promoters to have input.

I see this going one of two ways. One is it will simply end being up a mouse fart in the wind and things carry on as normal. The other is the ABP tries to force existing promoters into the seeding and rule changes under threat of boycott. If it is the latter I see a tough row to hoe for the ABP because of a few salient points I think they may not be giving enough weight:

1. There are not a whole lot of people jumping up to do $25K added events.

2. The people who already do $25K added events have nothing to gain by changing their established formats and rules.

3. The pro pool scene in the U.S. is tenuous at best. Rumor on the street is that the Seminoles are not coming back next year which knocks out five big money events right there leaving two Zuglan events, Barry Berhman doing the Open, Greg Sullivan doing the Derby, Mark Griffin doing the US Open 10 ball, Allen Hopkins doing the SBE Pro event and maybe Charlie Williams putting one or two 10-20k events together. Lets look at this list and guess who is going to change their rules, format and seeding:

Hopkins: Maybe.

Zuglan. Not no but probably hell no.

Sullivan: No way. Derby just doesnt lend itself to seeding or long races and isnt really a strict pro event anyway.

Barry: Maybe but I doubt it. Biggest sticking points is the call shot/call safe rules for 9 ball and the ABP seeding. Plus Barry is Barry, the Open is his baby and he is gonna draw a line somewhere on being told what to do.

Mark Griffin: He's my friend and partner so I know him pretty well. Lets just say it would surprise me greatly if he bought into the seeding and rule changes "required". A level of surprise on par with oh say the sun not coming up tomorrow.

Charlie Williams: ABP board member and if you believe the rumors head string puller. It's been a minute since Charlie did a BCA ranking points event but I suspect if and when he does do a $25K added event in this country it will be ABP all the way. Shocker there.

So we have three "No's", two "Maybe's" and a yes. If pushed the three no's will in all probability tell the ABP to pound sand and either keep on keepin on or just pull up from the pro game altogether. All in all it looks pretty bleak for the ABP prospects of turning existing events into a tour they can slap their name on.

I really hope this doesnt turn into a "my way or the highway" situation for anyone because no one is going to come out ahead.Best case for the ABP IMO is grandfather existing events as they sit, lobby for changes if you want but live and let live with the people who have for a long time and continue to pay your salaries however meager you may deem them.

The absolute best thing for the players to do to improve their own lot has been stated here on numerous occasions: Create your own tour. Show some serious organizational skills, unity, common sense, work ethic and there will be people jumping up to help. I can attest to this first hand. You'll starve for awhile but it's the only way to control your own destiny. If you are not willing or able to do that then making demands on others isn't going to get you where you want to be.

Damn. I didnt really mean to write all that. I was just going to post this picture:

Seminole Pro Tour - 01-23-2012, 02:42 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Seminole Pro Tour would like to thank all of the fans, players, room owners and especially sponsors who have supported the tour through the past five years that the tour has been in existence. It is with great sorrow and lament that the Seminole Tour will not have a season in 2012 and will continue to suspend operations indefinitely.

From its small beginnings as a regional tour in South Florida, to its growth as the premier national 10-ball tour in the country, the Seminole Pro Tour has always strived to put the player’s and fan’s interest first. The operations were not munsoned, but rather an executive decision to suspend operations was made. The amount of support that the Tour has had has been overwhelming. The countless correspondence that has been received expressing their support for the Tour has not gone unnoticed. The Seminole Pro Tour and the Seminole Tribe would like to say, “Sho-naa-bish (thank you).”

The Tour would especially like to thank a few people specifically. John DiToro, the creator of the original Seminole Pro Tour, is not only one of the best tour directors, but also a wonderful person. It was his vision and dedication that got the Seminole Pro Tour to the heights of the industry. John is a true professional and his work ethic is second to none. Thank you, John.

The Seminole Tribe had the pleasure to sponsor a couple of players. Corey Deuel, the Prince of Pool, was a true cornerstone to the betterment of the Tour’s operations. Corey’s professionalism and true love of the game helped the Tour grow leaps and bounds. If not for Corey, the Tour would have never been able to reach the levels that it did. Thank you, Corey.

The many sponsors and room owners that helped make the Tour possible are another group of people that were essential to the Tour’s operations. Without dedicated room owners and sponsors, the Tour would have never been able to reach the number of fans all over the country and the world. One room owner who stood by the Tour through thick and thin has been Rocky McElroy. No matter what the situation, The Tour could always count on Rocky to be there with his support and the support of his pool room, Capone’s. Thank you to all the sponsors, room owners and Rocky.

The Tour could not have grown without all of the great players that have honored the Tour by playing in the tournaments. The Seminole Pro Tour was unique in that it allowed average players to play alongside of World Champions. The Tour has seen several great matches and players in each tournament. If the great players would have never supported the Tour, there would have never been a national Tour. Thank you to all players who played in the tournaments.

The Tour would like to thank all of the staff and workers who dedicated themselves and sacrificed their time to make sure the Tour ran as smoothly as possible. Gerry Mayen, Tiffany Marquez, Kevin Pickard, Brenda Mello, Bobby Frank, OB Osceola and Elrod Bowers all had their mark on the operations of the Tour. Without their hard work in the office and on the road, the Tour would not have been so successful. Thank you, Seminole Pro Tour staff.

Lastly, the tour would like to thank all of the fans who supported the Tour. So many great fans came to see the events all over the country and thousands more watched online through our web streams. The fans are who the Tour was created for and their unconditional support is appreciated. Thank you, fans.

The Seminole Tribe of Florida has decided to pursue other operations within the Tribe and therefore will not be considering any further pool-related ventures at this time. The Seminoleprotour.com website will remain running so the final inventory of merchandise can be sold with extremely reduced prices.

SeminoleProTour:

Thanks for the post, the tour, and the exposure of our sport. You did more then most -- you gave it "a shot" and that speaks volumes!
