Is the sub rail and artimas rail upgrade for GC worth it?

Is it really worth the expense to modify the sub rails and purchase new artimas rails on a GC III to make it play like a Diamond? Cost all in is about $1500.
Thanks

You got north of 5k worth of cues listed after your name and you are asking if its worth 1500 to make a table play better? :grin-square:

lol. Yes I am. I guess the cost isnt the issue more so the value. Is it marginally better or ALOT better? Will it play near identical to the pro-ams down the street at the pool hall. If not, why bother? If not worth it, I could buy another cue:wink:

Yes!

I had RKC handle my table job and it plays like a dream. Most of my friends agree that it's the best table they've played on. After seeing how important attention to detail can be, I would not trust an OK mechanic to handle a job like this. It's truly a job for a master mechanic. I don't think it adds value to a table but the increase in skill is worth it as is the ease in transitioning to an ordinary table in a pool room.
Good luck! And if you're looking for a table in Texas, let me know as I've got a Centennial that I'm trying to raise funds to purchase.-Ryan

If at any time you have played on a pool hall table or a buddy's table that you know you hit the ball good and it either rattles in the pocket or dies when it hits the pocket opening even with speed then yes, it will be worth every Penny! I had it done to my GC II, and am very glad I did.

Who is going to do your rails? Hope they have a solid reputation and you have either seen or played on examples of their work.

Jeremy Chambers. Referred from RKC- the guy who posted above looks like he does real nice work as we'll. it sounds like it is worth it.

A LOT BETTER THAN A GC III with new Superspeed cushions ?

The price is right for a completely new sub rail and replace the wood under the ends of all the rails.
Your not going to get that kind of work out of the guys asking for the job....I won't speak for Jerimy chambers....he can make you new rails if he likes.
I can't even try and ask for the job cause I can't do it for at least 3 months I'm so backed up.
I would recommend sending them to Jerimy and have the Rails done the right way.

I had my GCII modified with Artemis and 4 1/2 pockets & Simonis 860. I am very happy with how the table plays, it plays very similar to the Blue Label Diamond BB at the bar I shoot for, the Diamond was new back in October when it was delivered. I have never played on a Diamond 9' table yet. Its not like I don't rattle balls anymore but when I do its because I know I did not hit the shot well, not because of the pockets. Modifying the sub-rails also corrected the pocket depth, with the Monarch Superspeeds the ball could sit ridiculously deep in the pocket without falling. When I get better I will not rattle so many balls, only on my 3rd year. The table needed new felt and cushions so instead of hacking it up, (which someone almost talked me into) I decided to do the sub-rails. If you need cushions, why spend all the money to put the wrong cushions on to just end up unhappy with it then fix it the right way a couple years later?

Wait till your Simonis cloth gets older . You might wish you can have Superspeed back.

Really? Why is that? I am kinda surprised how beat up it looks already, its almost 1 year since it was put on. There are a lot of burn marks, I even break from a piece of paper when I am playing/practicing alone. You can also start to see the lines on the felt in the rail groove. I keep everything clean, once a week I vacuum then Chalk Off the felt and wipe the balls, when I am not using the table it is always covered. I should have used the 860HR I think.

Do some banking and kicking tests.
Check if your kicking is much different than banking.

It is definately worth it if you want the table to play near perfect. I had mine done and would never dream of not having it done if I had to do it all over again.

The major con about doing that is it spoils you to death. :)

I have noticed that the table seems to kick shorter than it banks. Is this what you mean? I thought it was just because I was putting unintentional spin on the QB while kicking.

Like Danny said.....it's well worth the money if you get the rails done correctly. I did Danny's table with Artemis cushions and he loves the job and the way the table plays.....I know that because I did 4 3/8 corners and he wants the table tighter now.... He wanted 4 1/2 corners but I talked him into 4 3/8ths corners I just spoke with him and he said the way the table plays and accepts the balls....he said he wished he would have gone with tighter corners
Now....don't forget Danny can play really well
