Mark, I know of a pool room owner here in Adelaide Australia that was looking for a house pro from overseas for his pool room. He is probably the largest force in pushing 9-ball pool in Australia and runs alot of the events that send the players to the worlds from here and such. He wanted a top player to come out and basically "show" the Australian's how 9-ball is really played, there are decent players here, but noone of your calibre. I could talk to him if you wanted, maybe give him your info to contact you if you wanted (PM me if so). There would likely be some action for you here, nothing huge but the top players like to match up for alot of sets in the $50-$100 range when they practice and sets for $500 and $1000 have taken place in challenge match type things that the pool room owner wants to promote.
The good thing is it would be free pool on Olio (goldcrown knockoffs) tables with simonis and a quiet place to practice alot and get your game back up to snuff. It is also not that far to get to the Phillippines or Asia to get into some big tournaments and find really top quality action. The room is really quiet, it has about 8 9-foot tables a coulple 8-ball 2 shot tables, and normally there is noone there.
The best thing is I would spar with ya constantly in cheap sets and make sure you knew all of the players that are out there to play. It would be a great way to get back into the game nice and quiet like without all the hussle and bussle of the USA scene. Plus the jumping off point of Asia is where pool is at and where it is taking off.
If you want to play top level pool and make good money then come here, practice and get your game back to the top, and then hit the Asian tour scene, that is one place where the money really is comming in, there is alot of cash and interest in pool there atm, they fill the seats at pool tournaments to standing room only, they love to gamble and match players up, and they are a place where sponsership is easier because the players there are actually kind of like real sport stars. America is behind, Archer and the few older American players must look overseas and see the Yang, Chia-Chang Wu, Huang, Yu-Lun Wu and countless other young phenoms comming out of Asia and worry about the USA getting slaughtered once the old pro's in America fade out. Asia is atm the best sparring and competition area in the world by a long shot. It is brutal how many awesome players are out there and how deep the talent pool is in each event. As you know, you need to throw yourself right into the fire to rise to the top, that is where it is at atm and for the forseeable future that is where the game is going to get huge, the money is going to grow, and the champions are going to come from.
{edit} adding this. Asia is also where respect is shown in the game. You dont get the seedy side of pool as much there. The players are all more like snooker players, or golfers where they do their best and there is no shit going on. I doubt too many people get their teeth knocked out by a cue in Asia over a match of pool.
