Is this a JOSS cue??

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me, but I don't think it is - the ringwork doesn't look like what Joss uses (just a plain black collar) and the serial number and logo aren't etched on the SS Joint collar, and the cue is supposedly only 2 years old, which should mean it should be on there. Just kinda doesn't look right...

I've never seen ringwork like that on a Joss, unless they made a special series or something.
 
That is not a joss (east) cue. The points do not seem to rounded at the points and as the previous poster noted the ring work around the joint collar is not something ever seen on a joss cue. I have owned 4 Joss cues from early 80's to early 90's. I appears to be the seller does not know what kind of cue he is selling (unintentionally or intentionally is unknown). Advice. Pass on this cue, do not buy. Also, note the sellers rating. He has only one transaction. :cool:

After looking at the cue again, it definitly is not a Joss cue. It most likely is a generic cue.
 
definitely not a joss cue. Its an import model, i've seen similar work on ebay as 'palmer cue'.

There is a tie to Joss if I am indeed correct about the origin of the cue. Bill Stroud (Joss west cue) is one of the Taican factory advisers and He imports the newest equipment from JW cues and leads Taican workers to use them. Today, the taican factory is the largest factory anywhere making production cues. Several famous brands of production cues are made by them such as Universal, Lucasi, BCE, Buffalo, Adam, Licos, etc. But, taican is a name of Factory, not a brand of cues. It’s just a Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).

You could ask the seller for pictures of the butt and the name Joss. Also ask for pictures of the joint serial number. Joss always stamps a unique serial # on all of their joints. You could email Danny Janes himself and ask. Thats what I did when I wasn't sure.
 
You would think the person would have took a picture of the makers emblem....
Seems fishy...
 
Just looking at the woods, the inlays, the oversize inlays, etc. - I would say it's a Filipino made cue.

No stainless steel joint pretty much means it isn't a Joss. One of the defining characteristics of a Joss is the stainless steel joint with the cue number and the name Joss engraved in it. Every now and then you will see a Joss without the stainless steel joint but that is pretty rare IMO.

You have to click the link. The cue in question does have a ss joint. The one pictured in the thread is for comparison purposes on the ringwork on the joint collar. I still agree that it is most likely not a Joss.

I see that now. I was looking at the comparison pics thinking that was the cue in question.

The guy must have updated the ebay thing because he says it is a Palmers now.

ringwork is similar, inlay material very similar, dots are similar
Hes got the wrong idea of 'Palmer' when he has the link on the ebay auction
 
Peronally, I kind of think its fishy. I sent him this PM:

This is just my opinion, so please take it with a grain of salt, but I'm not too sure it is a Joss cue. The ringwork on the joint collars doesn't match what Danny Janes uses (a plain black collar) and the serial number isn't laser etched into the stainless steel joint collar like ALL Joss cues for the last 10 or so years. well my dad also has a Brand new joss that he just bought and it doesnt have any numbers on the cue the only numbers were when he bought the cuethe paperwork that came with it..and i dont have my paperwork i Bought the cue 2 years ago i dont know when it was made..all i know is its Nice

Now he's saying it's a 'one of a kind Palmer'? How does he know its one of a kind if he didnt even know what kind of cue it was? Plus, I'm sure Danny Janes has put serial number on ALL SS jointed Joss' for awhile now. Who knows though...:confused:
