Is this asking too much?

OK the pool hall I goto almost daily, has a semi - new girl who is working there most of the time, and while she is there, she refuses to clean the pool balls. Which sucks, because I hate playing with dirty pool balls. And Its been nearly two weeks since they've been cleaned. Which was the last time I did them. And I think I'm the only one who does clean them.

Normally the owner she lets me clean all the sets, when she is there, and I actually like to do this because, It's nice to be able to come in and get nice clean balls. But she has a rule that she doesnt want anyone else behind the counter when the new girl is working alone. OK i understand that.

But when I come in several times a week, and want to practice or gamble for a few hours, what is the big deal with cleaning a set of balls for 2 mins? Expecially if I'm going to be playing for 3 or 4 hours at a time?

The girl even went so far as to say she didnt know how to clean them, yet myself and several other guys said we would show her, because its obviously not that hard, but still got the big NO.

I've even told the girl, just give me a set of balls and I will go and clean them myself in the back room, and i still get told no. Am I asking for too much????

Doesn't sound like they are very serious about running a quality pool room! No matter what.....clean, well kept equipment is first. If you play in a room with loud music, video games, etc....they may only look at the pool stuff as money. Ive also seen this in rooms where the owner isn't a player.

the rooms I worked in, we cleaned the tables AT LEAST twice a day, and the balls after each use!

there's arcades,....and there are POOL ROOMS....and then there are BILLIARD ESTABLISHMENTS!:D

Well the way I see it you can do two things.
1. If possible talk to the owner about her not doing her job.
2. Check in, get a tray of balls, take them over by your table, get out a bottle of cleaner and a soft clean towel and clean them yourself.

Yes, I know that is going to waste "Table Time" and you will have to purchase a bottle of Ball cleaner, but that is the only solution until you can speak to the owner and have them show these attendants how to use the Ball washer and TELL them it is part of the job description.

:)

This reminds me of the attendant they hired at one of the local establishments. She did not turn the A/C on during the day, cause she was to Cold!!!!!!!!! Who told her to wear a crop top and a Micro Mini skirt
to work? so I had two choices.
1.Play on a wet table and get a crotch shot of her little red panties every time she sat down on a bar stool.
2.Play at another establishment.

Sometimes you just have to suck it up and play in adverse conditions. :)

Not asking too much, but probably more than you can expect to be fulfilled. Complain to management, if management isn't getting a little it might do some good.
Other than that, have you considered bringing your own balls? I've known others to do that.
The place I play not only doesn't clean (or even wipe off) the balls, it doesn't clean the tables. I actually don't think the owner likes pool anymore, as a matter of fact he has said so.

Everyone ...

take note: Arcades with a few Pool tables in them ARE NOT POOL ROOMS, and should not be referred to as Pool Rooms. The owners of these places do not care about Pool or their Pool tables unless they are forced to.

Any place where kids hang out most of the time, I do not consider a Pool Room... and to refer to them as such is misleading.

The pool hall I visit washes the balls once a week in the dishwasher. The tables might get cleaned once a week if I'm lucky. I've gotten so fed up with this that I bought my own set of super pro's which I clean before each session, the table I give a once over with a brush. I have gone so far as to take the cueball and the 8 and lock them with my cue so nobody can use my set.

Money Ball

I had it down to a science, what color panties she had on, depending on what day of the week it was.:D :D :D

The money ball is what ever color panties she's wearing that day. I do also enjoy to play some games without a money ball!:D :D

Wow we are babied alot then here in Lansing, they clean the balls after every use as well as clean the tables and rails after every use, pretty good deal it seems like, now if only they replaced the carpet in the place and fixed er' up a bit (which they are, slow project now)

This sounds like Pacific Ave Billiards here in 'toon town. They wipe/clean the balls when they go out, and often when they are returned (out for sure). They get washed about once every week or two. The tables are wiped down after every use. Now if they'd just make the pockets a bit bigger ....

No, I don't think you're asking too much Stormy.

Here's a quick and easy way to clean the balls.

Get a dry washrag and squirt a good amount of Maguire's liquid wax (available at autoparts stores) on it and thoroughly squeeze the wax throughout the rag. You don't want it dripping wet, but plenty moist. Then grab one ball at a time and give it a quick wiping for about 5 seconds with the washrag. Put the ball down and grab the second one, do it, put it down, continue and do all the other balls. Then get a clean, dry washrag or old cotton T-shirt and wipe the by now practically dried wax/residue off the balls. 5 seconds or so for each ball is more than enough. Voila. Cleaned and slightly polished balls that will play just fine. Obviously, if the table is super chalky, any set of balls will need to be given the once over from time to time. Better than going down that route is to clean the table too...

Well thats the problem is I have talked to the lady who runs the place and she just gives me the well, they dont need to be cleaned today, or Andrea ( the new girl) is working today so, your not allowed to clean the balls.

And yes today I called them up about 15mins after they open and talked to the lady who runs the place and asked if they was going to have the balls cleaned today, and she said no, and that Andrea was working, and I need to stop giving her (andrea) crap about cleaning the balls, And I said ok. And of course the lady asked if I was comming in today and I said nope, I'm just going to goto Guppies and play.

Which I did :) Guppies has all Diamond tables WOOT, and yes they have clean balls all the time too.

GLFDG82 I doubt your babied that much, most places I know of like Playtime in Kzoo and Billiards Cafe in BattleCreek do the same thing. Its just lazy management at this place. The lady finally has someone to work for her, and doesnt care anymore, about what happens at the place.

And seriously any DECENT POOL HALL should take the extra 1 or 2mins to have the balls cleaned before they are given out.

The last time I was cleaning the sets, a group of guys came in to play some, and they seem me cleaning them and I handed them a clean set, and they litterally said " WOW a clean set of balls to use "

It makes me wonder whats going to happen tomorrow when its time for leagues? She'll either ask me to clean a couple sets of balls or we will just use the 2 week old dirty ones.

And Captain, I'd go with choice #2 :D

But yea unless something happens I'm taking my business over to Guppies and just play on the Diamond tables.

Understanding the damaged goods = understanding the clean "true" goods.

I like how you think.

One thing people should know. When balls have gone more than two years without a cleaning, they can become so engrained with dirt that it actually enters the pores of the ball and invades it's very soul. Balls with corrupted souls cannot be redeemed.

I learned this from personal experience when I went to work on a set of balls that had not been cleaned in more than two years. I made them shine like new. Then I racked them up for a game of rotation. I had cleaned all 15 balls, but had forgotten to clean the cue ball. It was an honest mistake. Anyway, I power-slammed the cue-ball into the rack and was stunned to see all 15 balls shatter instantly into a multi-colored pile of dust with a big white ball spinning in the middle of it. ......

Might improve your game a little. Lots of things can be done with dirty balls that cant be done with shiny clean ones.

No hall in my town ever cleans the balls, and I've never thought to ask. There is one rack of balls that has a cue ball with a chunk missing out of it, most likely because some drunk guy knocked it off the table and into who knows what. If they have a spare set they'll trade it out. The biggest hall we have "cleans" (IE wipes off the wood) once a night at closing.

If your hall cleans the balls ever I would consider you lucky and not complain about bad ones.
