Is this legal?

I went into our local pool room for the first time in a couple months. A guy that I have never seen before ask me if I want to gamble some. Since I haven't been playing much I said I would only gamble at 1-pocket. We start playing for a fairly good amount after six or so games we are even.

In our seventh game I am up 7 ball to 2. I lag a bank that sits about 6 inches from my pocket and hook him behind a cluster of balls. He looks around for a minute or two and then goes to his case, takes out his jump stick , jumps the cluster and kicks the ball away from my hole.

When I used to play a lot of 1 pocket years back, jump sticks were not that prominent, so I have never run into this situation before. I know everyone uses jump sticks in 9-ball, but are they also legal in one-pocket?

They are legal. I think it takes some guts to use on in one-hole but they are legal. I have used them in the past for exactly the same reason your opponent did with moderate success.

P.S. You can't leave us hanging. How did the seesion turn out?

Yes ...

There is no rule per World Standization Rules for 1 Pocket
that preclude any type of cuestick, so yes, jumpsticks
are legal, but, in 1 Pocket, I would say a little dangerous
to use considering a slight rolloff by the cue ball, and the
opponent might run his string out to win the game.

1 game (Ben Franklin) stuck after a 5 hour session. I felt OK about it , considering how little I've played this year.

Rolloff/ On a jump shot? You have got to explain that one!!

The air hasn't been leveled in a while in his pool hall. Instead of being a homogenous mixture of gasses they form distinct colums and when the ball passes through different densities it is refracted, thus the jump shot roll off. They need an atmospheric scientist to come in to level out the air!

to popular belief, all players that shoot jump shots DO NOT
have perfect control of the cue ball, and sometimes it will
follow some or it might draw back more than planned, that
is what I meant by rolloff, hence, unintended rolling of the
cue ball than was planned.

WTF... I always check my pocket barometer at both ends of the table before shooting jump shots... lol.
