Is it legal to mark a shaft with a dot or ring 1.125" for balls that are 2.25" in diameter from the cue tip, align the shaft at the edge of the OB in line with the pocket/target, look at that spot on the shaft from behind the CB and shoot at where the spot was?
 
And you can also mark your shaft at 6 and 12 inches to help with kicks if you use the diamonds or mirror image
