IS USING PLEDGE ON A CARBON FIBER SHAFT A BAD IDEA?

in the main forum pledge seemed to be recommended to improve the smooth feeling of a carbon fiber shaft
i thought only 70-90% alcohol was recommended.
what do you cuemakers think?

thanks for the pic
i wonder if there is something special about the finish on the pechauer shaft compared to other carbon fiber shafts from other makers??
anyone know?
is it ok to use pledge on a revo?
why?? the Revo's( and all other cf's other than the Defy) i've tested were slicker than all get out. just use the wipes. i didn't see the need for applying any wax/silicone of any kind.

im pretty sure those predator wipes are just glorified lens wipes which you can get at walmart vision center for $3 for a big box. A can of pledge and a cloth can clean the cf shaft hundreds of times for dirt cheap. Smells good too.

Pure carbon fiber only requires isopropyl alcohol to clean the shaft, and it does an excellent job. Requiring a furniture wax tells me there is some kind of coating on the shaft. I'm not saying this is bad or that particular brand is not up to standards. My experience has been with Revos, Cynergy's and the Meucci Carbon Pro, all excellent playing shafts and only requiring the alcohol to clean or touch up. Full disclosure, my preference is a wood shaft, admitting that CF has more advantages.

Nope, no coating. A car's exterior is smooth to the touch and much smoother after a good wax job.

You just need to be careful that what ever you put onto the shaft does not have any long term detrimental effects on the resin that is binding the fibres. Clearly with the Pechauer shafts, it must be OK. My recommendation is to just use IPA only. Methanol over time does break down a lot of epoxy resins, the same with Nitromethane, ( Cyano remover) , so you do need to be careful.

Well here is there response.

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding the cleaning of your pool shaft.

Please see the following information regarding how to maintain your REVO Shaft.

REVO carbon composite shafts should never be sanded or modified. Sanding the surface of the REVO shaft will damage the exterior finish and weaken the shaft’s structural integrity and release potentially harmful materials that could affect your health. Any sanding, polishing, or treatment of the surface of the shaft with chemicals or abrasives of any kind will void the shaft’s limited-lifetime warranty and negatively affect the shaft’s longevity and performance.

Never use talcum powder, baby powder, hand chalk, or other shaft treatments on a REVO carbon fiber composite shaft.

To clean the surface of your REVO carbon composite shaft, you can use one of the following two solutions: REVO Wipes, or Isopropyl Alcohol (90%) cleaning.

Step 1. Wipe the shaft with the included microfiber cleaning cloth, brushing away any lose dirt, dust and debris.

Step 2. Using a REVO wipe or soft cloth towel with a reasonable amount of Isopropyl Alcohol (90%), work up and down the shaft, from the joint end toward the tip while rotating your hand around the shaft’s circumference. You may see dirt on the towelette – this is normal. Continue to work the shaft until all areas have been thoroughly wiped, allowing 1-2 minutes for the surface to dry.

So a standard form letter response. They don't know and are playing it safe.

thank you for the effort and time.... (y)

70% wipes work fine. Everyone i know that uses cf uses them with no ill effects. Its not like you're saturating the shaft, the stuff evaporates real fast.

I have used the Zeiss lens wipes on all my CF shafts. They are way cheaper than the Predator wipes and they open up to about the same size (6"x5"), not like other lens wipes that only open to about 2". You can get different size boxes from Amazon, Walmart and many other places. You can get a 220 count box from Amazon for $14.80. That's less than 7 cents per wipe. The Revos are 50 cents per wipe.
