This has been a very interesting thread!..The only person I know real well, and can relate to positively, is Jay Helfert..There are many others who make sensible posts, but there are so many more, who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about!..That is not surprising, given that this same subject comes up at least weekly, and the same ego driven 'know-nothings' participate, until it becomes a real chore to sift through their endless, boring rhetoric!
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I know how to go about 'fixing' pool..But I do know, that unless we can find a way to all pull together, it looks like an exercise in futility!..Crooked promoter's, self-serving pros, and greedy con men, will always outnumber the good guys in pool!..Should we be shocked?..It is also that way in most every other sport in the world!..They are just better at keeping a lid on it, than us pool addicts!
Luckily, pool is a very small segment of society in general..What do we have, 50,000 pool nuts, beating the subject to death on these pool forums?..Imagine if we had the millions of followers, that the media attracts to the major sports in this country!
..Pool, like 3-cushion billiards, would have been completely dead 50 years ago!..Bottom line, If we can't control the negativity and bashing, among ourselves, what are the chances pool will survive the next 10 or 20 yrs.?..We are our own
worst enemy, when it comes to keeping it a 'niche' sport!..I'd like to think, it could be so much more!
PS. As for getting in the Olympics, you can't tell me that pool isn't more exciting to watch than
curling or
javelin throwing?
At the progress we are making, the most boring spectator sport in the world,
Bowling (ugh) will likely get in before we do
