i have a little bone to pick with a lot of unnamed people out there. here's the thing, what difference at all does it make where money is coming from when two people are matching up. my current position is that is doesn't matter one iota if its a backers money, money from a robbed bank, money from the guys pocket..... whatever.... who cares. you CAN decide.... ok, he's playing with a backer and will be loose, so i think he's the favorite.... maybe i'll catch him on a night his backer aint here and get the same game. but DONT say, well ill play you on your own. even if you dont know it, that makes you look like an idiot. either play or don't play, but don't start this prerequisite that the money needs to come from one particular source or another.... it's idiotic.

i post this because i'm sick of people saying during a matchup..... dont you have the heart to play on your own, im playing on my money, you need to play on yours. or playing for 200 you oblige... then 400 he asks and you oblige.... then 200 a game and you go ask someone if he wants part of the action and the guy freaks out. i do understand things should be handled well, especially when you're up. but this whole bit needs to stop and im just here to tell you all that, the ones that need to be told anyway.... IT DOESN'T MATTER WHERE THE MONEY COMES FROM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it does but dont use that during negotiation. think about it, its stupid. eg player a says "play on your own," player b says "ok" player b's backer says "i still got you right" player b says yes. anyway.... just dont do it anymore. forgive me for not being able to write a more thought out post on this tonight. it was a quickie.
 
I understand what you are saying, and I agree with you for sure.

There is one school of thought that people cannot play as good on their own money as they do when they are backed. I have seen this happen firsthand with a local player. He has a family with two kids. When he plays on his own money, he chokes. When he is playing on somebody else's money, he plays like a champion. It is sad but true! :embarrassed2:

There are some instances where if there is no backer, then there won't be any action. As one example, if somebody woofs at another player to play for, say, $10,000, it is difficult for most people to come up with 10 dimes. If there is no backer or stakehorse, then the action may not take place.

Me personally, I will never gamble what I cannot afford to lose. Going to pool tournaments today, as far as I'm concerned, is just a gamble. I will look at them as a pool vacation and never as a money-making venture. The expenses are so high that even when you win in a pool tournament, you are still recovering from losses at a previous event.

Action is where my household has made the most money in pool, not from those tournaments, but oftentimes the tournament venues are places where action will happen when the players draw near.
