Italian Billiard or Five pin billiards

Hi this is an italian billiard game, popular in Italy and in South America but not that much in the USA..
it is a game played in a billiard table 5x10ft pocketless. Here in wikipedia you can find lot of information, rules, equipment.
The objects of the game is to knock the pins in the center of the table, with your cb you must hit the opponent cueball and knock the pins. If you hit the pins with your cb you lose the point depending on the values of the pins.
Italian billiard also is a game of rotation, even if you score points you can't stay twice in a row at the table. This means every shot you play it is a two way shot, you make points and try to make a safety. The red cueball is a neutral ball and it is used to snooker the opponent or to score more points ( you can read about this in wikipedia). In this game is very easy to see 3-4 rail shots, 4 rail kick shots, massè shots, and jacked up shots.

There is even a 8 ( or more) rail kick shot called "Ottavina reale", this is from a movie but is very hard to find it in a match:

This is a video of some nice shot:

hope you enjoy it.

we have a new room here in Vegas thats the nicest room I have ever been period in 25 years, I been in about 100-125 pool rooms, Maybe Hollywood Alethetic Club was a tie or close 2nd. The New room here in Vegas has the best food of any pool room I have ever been in period hands down. and this is the game they play there, lots of kicking combined with billiards, its one hell of a game. Mike Massey just came to town last night and will be staying with me for a while, he told me about the room last time he was in town. Its a tough game, mike is pretty strong at it. I suck.

there is another version where you roll the balls by hand on the table-that I was good at and its fun, I really hope this new room does well, the tables cost $20K each I heard-they look like it too. They roll perfect, heated slates, everything was done right. They have great score boards-until you see the game its hard to understand how important the scoreboard is, its more important than snooker. Id say its like having a electronic score board in darts-makes life nice and easy to keep track of the score, whos, shot it is etc.

Its a great game, period. I'm going to start playing it some as a matter of fact. I'd like to see Efren play it, its billiards but in a different way, lots of kicking, lots of kicking and watching Mike Massey play it great. Those guys Efren, Mike with their creative minds really help in this game. For a not-so-creative 9 ball player(me) its a tough game to see the right shot.

Fabio Margutti

This is a very interesting topic and a beautiful game.

Look into Biliardo Web which carries a quite long explanation of Margutti system. Some 21 chapters, which are a condensation and clarification of his book. Lots of diagrams and discussion of the essential kicks to center table.

I struggled in translating meaning until I found help via google. Or translated into English using google language assistance.

If you subscribe, I am Alfonso with a trailing number. I haven't been there in a while but it is interesting to peruse the diagrams and finding something of interest, signing in to see language discussions.

ehi i'm alredy subscribed in biliardoweb and i follow it daily. I was aware of margutti article :)

Very cool game. Easier than 3-cushion though. Johnnyt
why do you think it is easier? Consider you have to play safe too, so it is useless make points when your opponent can make more point than you..

that's a really interesting game, I have watched several matches by pros on TV and even a couple live games of lower skilled players

I used to play this when I lived in Germany at some of the bars where Italians hang out. There are variations.

We used to play for money and one time I knocked over all the pins and caromed off all the balls and won the game outright.

Total FLUKE.

Great game as are all the local billiards games around the world. I think I mentioned this in one of my threads a while back talking about how diversre the billiard sports are around the world.
