It's lights out.....

Gaby Owen is also 1 and 4 and is on the same boat as Ralf.

Unless by some miracle, I think it's over for both of them.

Having said that, the commentators mentioned that there with 3 players on last years WPC that didn't make it to the magic 64 even with 4 wins and there where also 3 players last year who made it with only 3 wins.

Gabe has a glimmer of a hope if Chang losses to Rojas.

Gabe is at 2-3. There seems to be a mistake at the group standings after day 2.

Day 1: Valentine-Gabe 5-4
Gabe-Rojas 5-1
Day 2: Al Howri-Gabe 3-5
etc.

Actually, Gabe has a decent chance now at 2-3, he needs two wins and his last matches are against Condo and Aslan.

He lost to Huang Chien-Chen 30 minutes ago.

At just a quick glance with a very untrained eye, here's what I've been able to come up with for the americans so far...

Hillbilly - should make it to the final 64
Danny B - should make it to the final 64
M. Davis - borderline
C. Williams - doubtful
Rodney - borderline
Schmidt - doubtful
Putnam - doubtful
J Jones - doubtful
Corey - definite final 64
Earl - definite final 64
Archer - definite final 64

What do you guys with the most knowledge about this tourney think? Am I looking at things right or am I way off base?

Pool trivia:

Who's the only player in history to have won all of the following:

World Pool Championship
US Open 9-ball
US Open 14.1
Derby City 9-ball
BCA Open 0-ball
International Challenge of Champions

....................If you said Ralf Souquet, nice job. Really sad to see this living legend and future BCA Hall of Famer have such a poor showing in the 2005 WPC.

SJM, I have to agree. I think it just goes to show how tough the WPC really is. Race to 5... wow... that's tough in a field as strong as this. From what little bit I've been around Ralf, he seems like a really nice guy. I've known others that know him better and they've raved about what a nice guy he is.

I know. After 3 days, Gabe's at 2-3.

My apologies, after double tripple checking the Group 11, Gabe is at 2-3 win loss standing. He is still in the running. Mjantti is right.

Steve Davis just lost to Yang 5 to 4.

He is next to fall with 6 games at 2 to 4 win loss record.

Reyes is next after losing 5 1 to Hybler. His only chance will be for Mike Davis to loss both his matches and Efren in return wins both his matches. Then it boils down to Racks Won. Lossing 5 to 1 doesn't help at all.

Antonio Lining is another in the brink of not making it. Unless Stolka or Lui losses both their matches tomorrow and Lining wins 2 of his matches as well, then it will boil down to Racks Won as well.

I guess these players are still fighting it out to finish in the cash, gotta like a tournament that pays out 3/4 of the field :)

There's a 4 way tie for the 4th spot in group 14. As best as I can tell, Putnam is going to have to not only win both matches tomorrow but he's going to have to beat them better than hill hill to get his RW up in order to have a chance.

Many thanks

to Blowfish for all the reporting ... tap tap tap...

I think Double J will get there, looking at his matches as opposed to the
guy in front of him, I am betting on Double J to get there. He is real
good under pressure.

I am pulling real hard for Gabe since he is a personal friend of mine.

I hope Mike Davis can pull it out ...

Cory's talent is showing well. So is Johnny's.

Since I am Scottish and my family name is one of the 2 original Highlander
clans of Scotland, I have been following the only player from Scotland,
Michael Valentine, and he is playing well at 5-0.

Now - I may be wrong - but from looking at the WPC site I see that Phil Reilly (current 4th in group 2) lost his last two matches, 5-0 and 5-1. He's on 6 points, with now a pretty poor RW/RL difference. If Steve wins his last match, I think he might make it through... It's a slim chance for the Romford Slim though eh?
