More details will be forthcoming shortly but the WPA wishes to take this opportunity to thank the organizers in Qatar who have worked so diligently to make this event a reality. The world has been awaiting the return of the World 9-Ball Championships and it is their efforts who have made this possible.

Another major pool event in the year is always a good thing.

The only thing is that I do believe 9-ball is still a "broken" game and I do think that the World 10-ball championships should be the flagship competition of rotational pool due to it's being a similar game with the flaws of 9-ball marginalized to a large extent.

While it is nice to see the World 9-ball championship back as it will bring together one of the strongest fields of the incomming year, it is still an event that I think in the long run might have to be replaced and let go in order to focus the sport more on 10-ball, which is flat out a better rotational game for professional competitions.

As a pool fan? Great another tournament to watch and sweat. As a person who wants to see the sport gain a following amoung the general public?

I feel we need to focus the sport more on a specific game and 9-ball is not it.

If we go for rotational pool 10-ball is the best game we have.

If we want to go for the best game overall for this sport to gain a following and audience? 8-ball.

eight ball ant no were near as good a game as 9ball its ten times easier least with 9ball you got to have a stroke

This is absolutely great news but what I want to know is will it be broadcast in europe and if so who will pick up the live rights ESPN or Sky Sports?, but the main thing is that the world 9 ball is back baby YEAH!.

Mostly Agree

I mostly agree with you on this however I think it is possible for the two to "co-exist" My thinking is this now with the World 9 Ball championship being back it basically makes another major.

1. WPA World 9 Ball
2. WPA World 10 Ball
3. US Open 9 Ball
4. possibly the WPP Pro 9 ball championship in Nigeria.

I think pool needs to go the route of Golf and Tennis....being that you have 4 majors that are on everybodys calendars. Giving that possibility for a grand slam champion. (highly unlikely but...)

If you have 4 majors events recognized by the WPA it makes the ratings system alot more creditable due to that fact each event would play to a universal set of rules.

I too believe that 10 ball may one day over take 9 ball but it is along way from that right now. 10 ball also has it's flaws by eliminating the 2 way shots.

Just my thoughts,

Dave
