I have a Chris Jones custom with a white Delrin buttcap. I would like to have this replaced with an ivory buttcap. Any recommendations from you custom cue nuts out there?

Ivory Butt Cap? Please recommend

just make sure the ivory is old, a old cue ball is best, fresh ivory-less than 15-20 years old can crack easill, I have a pile of tusks that are 2-7 years old and was talking to Ernie at Ginacue he said that they are useless for 10 more years as they tend to crack and he is right I have 2 that have huge cracks going across them, they need time to season. If the ivory is good for a ferrel then its cool for a butt plate, but no-green ivory.
personally I like delrin but thats just me, and everything else ivory, I never bump my cues so thats not an issue, oh yeah the ivory dosent need to be bumped to crack if its too freash it just does.

hey rich, why would you put an Ivory butt cap with your cue? Its already nice! If you are really looking for cue with Ivory load, I highly recommend for you to go to a custom cue maker and just buy a new one with Ivory buttcap. also, it would not have any difference if you are going to replace just the buttcap of your cue. You might wanna consider the joint as well coz just the buttcap will not have any sense.
Fatboy , might also be right. Ivory is weak when use at the buttcap due to vibration from the impact of your cue on the floor. Ivory joint should run about a couple of hundred also. If I were you, Ill just buy a real nice one soon. Somewhere from Joss west, Scruggs or a well know cue maker. some of the guys here on AZ might be able to offer you a good price on one.
I BTW, I just recieve my cue back from Mr. JW petree. I had a black lizard wrap installed and it looooookkkkssss awesome Man!!!

also I personally dont like ivory joints, they look great but for me they soften up the hit too much, I wish they didnt because i perfer the look. But thats just me,
I wouldnt mess with changing the butt cap, but I cant speak for you and if you want to do it, do it, just make sure its good ivory-and I'm sure it would be as cue makers know their trade and wouldnt use ivory that isnt seasoned yet, Also make sure who does the work works with alot of ivory like Ernie at Ginacue does. You dont want this to be the makers first ivory butt cap. just trying to help you.
