I have just purchased enough ivory to make an ivory handled cue. I was wondering what some of you here would suggest for design. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FIRST YOU NEED TO FIND SOMEONE WILLING TO USE YOUR MATERIALS, THEN AS FAR AS THE DESIGN GOES, YOUR BUDGET IS THE ONLY LIMITING FACTOR. SCRIM WORK LOOKS GREAT ON A FULL IVORY HANDLE.

I know quite a few cuemakers that will use your Ivory... Pm for a list of them. Core it, I would segment it with nice ringwork.. That piece must have cost a lot of money!!!

Could not agree with you more. I like the look of a segmented ivory handle. Perhaps two or three pieces. And as far as getting it to 'pop' or stand out, scrim work is the best way to go IMO. Nothing provides a better contrast to white than black!

Inlays are ok too. Sometimes silver. Sometimes a darker wood with some figure (burl).

But Marcus is right. Your only limitations are those of the selected cuemaker and your budget. Keep both in mind when trying to come up with something.

Look at some of these for ideas.

Gilbert "Ivory Starburst". (Not a true 'ivory handle' but look at the second pic.)

(oh, and special thanks to Waltoncues and High End Ken for the wonderful examples I was able to find from them)

If you are planning to build a cue with an ivory handle to play with i've heard that the ivory handle cues are on the heavy side, but I could be wrong......

They are. I actually intended on using it for a Guinness World Record attempt and then to auction it for charity after, until I found out the weight. I am uncertain what I will be doing with the cue, but I have already procured the ivory.
