Ivory joint threads on a TS cue.

The tendon that the ivory joint piece screwed onti is 5/8 wide but I'm having trouble telling if it is x 18 tpi,, or 20 tpi. Does anyone know off hand.

Seeing Mr. Scruggs bought his stainless joints over sized and machined them after it was on the cue. It would make sence if your seeing a 5/8" fine thread then it should be a 5/8x18. Course thread 5/8x11.
 
I agree that a pair of thread gauges are essential.
I'm sure that most of the makers on here can tell common thread pitches at a glance.
If you're out and about and you didn't happen to bring your thread gauges, you can download the free Thread Pitch app to your smart phone and do a quick thread pitch check. It won't replace your thread gauges, but it works well enough to show your customer that his 3/8-11 pin is actually a 3/8-10.
