I have seen many cues sold with and Ivory sleeved joint and being called and Ivory joint. What's the point or benefit of such a joint when so little Ivory touches the shaft as compared to full Ivory face. I can't see where it affects the hit to any great degree. Thanks for any and all insight.

well a solid ivory joint will play softer than ivory sleeved over phenolic.
I personally dont like the sleeved ivory. If solid ivory cracks that sleeve is much weaker IMO

I have always used it as more of an aesthetic option as opposed to enhancing the hit.

I never recommend it for an everyday player either Dave.

IMO, sleeved ivory, (solid) capped ivory, thinwall steel, and flat-face wood to wood are all more alike than they are different with respect to how they hit and play. I like them all. When it comes to ivory, I prefer the sleeve because it allows for direct contact with the wood surface to transmit feedback from the tip and slightly reduces the mass in that area compared to capped ivory. I've owned ivory jointed cues since 1970's when I lived in Michigan. Never had a joint or a ferrule crack, BTW!

Isn't the whole point of sleeving ivory for durability?

I would add to that, aesthetics which leads to a better hit in the opinion of some.
