J/B as a playing cue?

Does anyone use a J/B butt with a regular playing shaft for their main playing cue here? Thinking about trying a carbon shaft for the first time on a J/B butt. Any opinions or bad idea? I'm not into LD shafts but thought I might try something different and sell it if I don't care for it. Thinking about a Whyte shaft. Thx, Shooter08

The Mezz Avant is a 2-piece butt that is basically the same as a jump/break but is intended to be used as a playing cue instead. The idea behind it is that you can change the fore/aft balance of the cue as both pieces allow for weight bolts.

I know a few guys that used a Gilbert j/b butt as their player.
I shoot with a gentleman that regularly plays with a Gilbert J/B with a shooting shaft. He's pretty sporty with it. He had it made with a shooting and break shaft. Brian

If that's what you want to do then give it a try , I used to break and play with the same cue for many years without any ill effects ha ha
It's been the last few years that I've acquired a dedicated break cue different than my main playing cue , I've even played a few racks with my break cue bar box 8 ball and it worked well all in all .
This is as BK2 , Predator break cue with a 312-2 shaft and a Le Pro tip for a reference .

The last guy I knew that was Danny Green, Mid-Atlantic player, rest his soul.

I know a few people that do this. There's really no reason not to, other than it will be pretty bad for jumping.
Might actually be quite useful if you play someplace with posts or walls or other obstructions too close to the table.

Are you technically allowed to change from a playing shaft to a jump shaft in a typical local tournament? I’m guessing that would be frowned upon. I could see in casual play even swapping out to break, but would think you could break w the playing shaft if in a tournament, but also have a dedicated jump cue.

I sold most of my equipment to make a big purchase I’ve been using a BK Rush with a regular revo . There’s little to no difference and I use the 3” extension with it .

I have heard that. Do they use a Gilbert built shaft or Carbon or other wood LD?
I once had a Gilbert J/B- it came with a built in rear extension- and 2 shafts- one I had a white diamond break tip and the other shaft was for playing- it came with the rear extension built in by Andy Gilbert--( you twisted the butt sleeve and it came out 8 inches attached to a rod-- and you twisted again to lock it in place as an extension) ----- so it was also meant for playing, not just break/jump.
