I think the first post you got was right on the money. As far as production cues go, Pechauer has become my favorite. I'm comparing ot to Predator, Schon and the higher end Joss cues. I won a new Pro series Pechauer...the black plain jane in a raffle. It came with a Predator 314-2 shaft and I ended up liking it better than my all-predator 4K3 or the Schon I once had with an OB1 shaft. These Pechauers are very solid hitting. I've heard that its because of their construction approach to the A joint, when I called Pechauer to purchase one of their shafts. I did , but it plays much better than with the standard Pechauer shaft.
I also like the balance of the Pechauer with the 314 shaft. It isn't as butt heavy as the Predators or the Schons (again, I am talking about these cues with a laminated shaft...not the original Schon or the older Joss with a Joss shaft. All nice cues...solid and accurate, but this Pechauer, 314-2 combination is th nicest hitting production cue I've played. Compared to most of the Schons, which are generally considered at the apex of production cue quality, the Pechauer holds it's own as far as fit and finish and with the 314-2 it plays very firm and is dead-nuts accurate. It's also an easy cue to play with... really easy to move the cue around the table. Thats probably a function of the 314 shaft, but the Pechauer butt is a nice well made butt....the joint, finish all top quality. And one area I think Pechauer really is better in my opinion is their patented "speed joint". It takes just a few turns more than the uni-locs that you'll find on most 5/16 stainless joints, but it never loosens up as I've found that uni-locs do some times. With my 4K3 I'd always find myself giving the shaft a turn just to make sure that the joint hadn't loosened. The Pechauer speed joint is tight fitting and never loosens up. And it doesn't have the 14 threaded pin that Schon still uses, so it's mush faster to tighten the joint up than the Schon. The pin goes directly into the shaft wood and the 314-2's that are used for the Pechauer joint has a brass pilot surrounded in phenolic. All in all it's the best all-round stainless steel 5/16th joint I've played. The other Pechauer benefit is the lifetime warranty, which, from what I've heard is backed uo with no-questions-asked by the company. So I wouldn't hesitate going with a Pechauer. Incidentally, the standard pechauer shaft is a good one....as good as a schon, in my opinion...but the 314-2 / Pechauer is a really good combo if you like the point and pocket /very low deflection type of performance. Seyberts has put together a Pechauer line of cues that uses a Predator shaft and considering the expense of the 314's they are priced really well for quite a bit of cue. This combination and pricing really puts it in an entirely different category than any Lucasi that I know of. A friend of mine purchased my Schon/ OB1 cue and tells me he definitely prefers my Pechauer. In fact he just ordered a 314-2 shaft for the really nice STL-9 Schon I sold him.
