Jack Hines

Has anyone got any information on the whereabouts of Jack Hines? He passed through New Orleans a couple of years ago, wrecked his high speed motorcycle and everything then went down hill for him for a while until he made it out of the Big Easy.

Jack had some unique proprietary knowledge about some aspects of pool. With all of his problems, I still liked the guy. Go figure....

I think he was making license plates for a while. I saw him at arena months ago and his game was at about 20% at most.

I backed jack for over a year when he lived in Akron in the mid ninties and he played light out. Jack has a lot of vices and will hustle you out of your last dollar, but I found myself letting a lot of his short comings go unnoticed. He is a funny guy to go places with, he is the only player in the world that I would pay money to see him play the ghost. Those that have seen him play will understand what I mean.

Once, before I knew of his short comings (about 8 years ago), I asked him if he wanted to hit a few bars and pick up some extra money playing the locals cheap 8 ball. We left Rackateers (Gerald Huber's (Humphrey) pool hall) spent the whole night roaming the bars in New Orleans on the westbank. Jack couldn't beat any of the locals and I mean any of them. I financed our night out and as luck would have it, I managed to come out on the plus side while Jack struggled to break even. I still to this day don't understand how someone's game can go from so good to so bad. AFtwerward my peers told me about his shortcomings and that I must have lost my mind to be riding a guy like that. LOL

What was it about Jack playing the ghost? PM me if you like.
Thanks,
JoeyA

The reason I liked to watch him play the ghost because everything was three rails for shape. When he played the ghost you do not have to watch anyone else play. Jack fires balls in at one hundred m.p.h while talking smack the whole time. You are right about his gears I have seen him give Nick the 8ball and steam roll him, but he sometimes he gets frustrated against a shortstop and losses to people he shouldn't. I will stand by he is the greatest shotmaker I have ever seen period.

He might also be one of the greatest rack mechanics and most aggravating players to rack for in the history of the game. Real important to take meds before you play:cool: ........is their a "rack" school in that part of the country:confused:

Danny Harriman can attest to that.

I could careless if someone of his low character ever hit a ball again. I have many Jack Hines stories, all with the same low crude classless behavior.

The first time I saw him, he played my good buddy lil Ricky. Ricky was one of the most respected gamblers here in St. Louis and Jack's method of matching up was telling Ricky to ------------.

The second time I saw him was in Olathe KS. He was matched up in the corner playing Santos, after Santos had recently arrived in the US. Santos was giving Jack the 8 & Jack was in one of his lights out, mixture right modes. Santos was real quiet with a few friends watching & Jack was saying out loud over & over again to anyone that would listen, "This --------------- can't give me the 8". Santos never said a word. I walked away I just so happened to run into Cliff Joyner on the other side of the pool room. I told Cliff the goings on & he walked over to have a look himself. Funny, when Cliff arrived the N word stopped.

I could go on , but think I think I have made my point. Jack Hines is busted.....that's a shame.

WOW! I knew Jack had some personal problems but I didn't know he would stoop that low to win a dollar. That type of behavior is inexcusable. Thanks for the heads-up. I have never seen Jack talk like that in private or public. I have seen lots of malicious woofing from him but none of the putrid kind that you mentioned. Would any others here care to confirm what watchez says?
Warm Regards,

I have no reason to make it up & am careful of what I type, whether some want to believe it or not. I have never said a word to Jack Hines personally & don't care too. I am not sure if Cliff would remember the incident. It was about 10 years ago & not sure if it left Cliff with the memory as it did me. Santos, I have never spoken to personally, and I don't know how good his English is now or was back then. I would think it was decent if he was able to match up a pool game. Ricky is not around. Kind of leaves me hanging, I know.

The last time I saw Jack Hines was at a tournament here in St. Louis. It was rack your own on a big table. He was playing Mike Gulyassey & Jack was fixing the rack so the wing ball was flying in. Mike, after three of these, asked him to re-rack & it came pretty close to a real fight. I have heard that Jack has been barred off many local tours.

I don't know about this. Jack was depicted as being a racist piece of crap and now he's a pedophile. God, the things you can learn on these forums. I have not met some of you in this forum although I did meet a lot of AZers in Louisville this year. I don't doubt that both of the stories are true. It is sad to think that a person could be that despicable.
sigh............

I really hate to post this story but, what the hell? :)

When I was living in Lansing, as a 14 year old kid, Jack Hynes (Hines?) lived there also. Now, I could be wrong, but I *think* he was 32 at the time. I got to know him because, aside from being one of the best players around there at the time, he was also dating one of the girls that hung around the pool room that was the same age as me (all of us juvenile delinquents who were around the same age hung out together)!!

The story is 100% true. I probably should have kept it to myself. As a kid, Jack was always nice to me - even though he beat me out of my only $5 on more than one occasion. Of course, I didn't care that he was an older guy who was going out with a girl my age. I was a kid myself and didn't really know how bad that was at that age. I was impressed by the guy as a player when I was 14 - as I was most good players at that time - and I would bug him with questions about pool. If I remember correctly, he was usually pretty cool about answering my questions. Anyway, since my post has already been quoted I can't really delete it, but I do apologize for posting it.

Someone post a pic of him please.
Too many times it seems that excuses are made for people, especially here on AZBilliards, just because they can draw their ball. I don't know about the pedophile (sp?) comment. Like I said, I never got the urge to speak to Jack Hynes (I think this is the correct spelling of his last name). I do know what I saw of Jack numerous times & that was enough for me to make my opinion of him.

Anyways, I did a google search on him out of boredom & found nothing. Maybe those 4 years he was absent was when the internet really exploded & he just hasn't been around enough. Who knows. Maybe JAM has a pic of him in one of her files.

He was banned permanently by the now defunct Mens pro Billiards Tour.He once defeated Earl in a Pro billiards Tour stop.
Figuratively speaking , everybody wanted to beat him up in every town he was in.He never misbehaved with me and he was very respectable towards me during the few meetings we had .

Several years ago..

He was banned from the Big Thanksgiving tournament here in Wichita for getting extremely belligerent, name calling, and generally running down all kinds of players. He was allowed to finish the tournament, but was
banned from coming back. Tony Fargo was here that year, and he and Jack were in the last few rounds of the tournament, and I believe Tony beat Jack.
I don't remember if that was the year that Cliff Joyner was here or not.

And Hynes is the correct spelling of his name.

So are you saying that Jack Hynes was calling Santos Sambajon a "-----------"? But that when Cliff Joyner walked over to the table, Hynes was so scared that he stopped using that phrase? Did Santos win, or lose, the set?

Yes your reading comprehension is correct. Jack won easily.

Hynes pictures

These are two I found from '88. He finished second to Earl at the Ohio State Open at Starchers Billiards in Akron.

If Cliff was only there one year, that wasn't the year. Because I was there the year Cliff was and towards the end the main players were Jesse Bowen, Danny Medina, Dave Matlock, another guy from OK and I don't remember the other ones, but I don't think it would have been Tony Fargo and Jack Hynes. James Walden went out in two, losing his first to Danny Medina and his second to one of the Moline contingent.

Cheers,
RC
