Hello all

Hi am picking up a Jackson custom cue in the near
future and would love to hear some thoughts on these
cues . I have never owned or shot with one but I hear
they hit very much like a Schon . Opinions anyone ???

Thanks ... Larry :)

I shot a couple of games with a Jackson once in Denver about a year and a half ago. I was at Showcase billiards in Denver and a player and I were waiting for their cue maker to show up and we swapped cues for a few games. He had a rather simple Jackson (no points) with nice ring work. I liked the hit it reminded me of the OLD Meucci's before they got whippy. I have a Schon and this Jackson was not near as stiff as my Schon. It might just be the shaft on this Schon but I have never liked the hit. This might sound strange but the Jackson was very quiet and solid feeling. As you well know the tip can change everything he was using a medium Talisman that was band new and still soft, that might explain the quiet hit.

Larry I never put the cue together and did not think to ask about the joint. I know that comparing it to a Meucci can be dangerous on this board but I have hit with a few that played pretty sporty. I am not the best judge of how a cue plays although I have played with most all production cues. To me it still comes down to 60% tip 39% shaft and 1% joint. May be this diagnosis of a cue what keeps me off of the cue gallery corner of this forum. Some times I think I know a lot until I go over there and I realize I don't know squat:embarrassed2:.

Jackson Cues are solid

I have sold Jackson cues for about 15 years. I have never had a problem with a Jackson, I feel they play similar to a Schon. I know one of the top bar table players in the midwest Rory Hendrickson from Fargo Billiards has been using one since about 1996. He just had the cue refinished and turned out perfect. Your buying one of the best cues on the market!

Jackson

Jackson Cue is a good solid players cue. When I visited with Nubs Wagner and Steve Miller at Nova Cues some years ago,Steve told me he did a little work at Jackson Cues. I know how the hit difference is between Schon and Nova feels. The difference between these cues is measurable. You won't be disappointed. For the Dollars spent it's a good value in a players cue. Maybe some of our AZ'ers around West Bend could let us know more.

Jackson cues

I know two BCA bar league players out here on the Oregon Coast who play Jackson's. One, a really good friend, went to a cue shop that had some 50 or 60 different brand of cues. After a few hours he settled on a Jackson with an ivory joint (I think it was ivory). The best player in our league also plays one and has for years.

I am giving real serious consideration to having a custom Jackson built in the 60" variety. I will probably give a few custom makers cues a chance too, but its high on the list. No inlays or points for me either. Just a cocobolo butt and fore arm and a little ring work maybe a butt cap with a different wood.

Let us know how it works out if you get it

Re-sell value for used cue is not real strong. Have owned 3 over the last 12 years. All shot very nice. Best I remember they had a little bit of a unique hit to them. Little different from Joss or Schon. Mine were s/s joint, 18 thread. The people at Jackson cue made me an extra shaft. Remember they were excellent to work with. You should be pleased.

Sorry for bumping a 12 year old thread, but I am very surprised that the Jackson had a 5/16x14 joint on it. Must have been a custom order, because their standard joint is a unique type of flat faced joint, but not sure what the threads are on them. They are really great cues though, in my opinion.

I believe both 9/32x18 and 5/16x14 were offered.

I was offered a gorgeous Jackson unhit cue for a very good price about a year ago. It really was a stunning looking cue. Probably should have bought it.

I am very familiar with JCC, I go there often and I get to look around his shop. He builds a very nice cue, no short cuts. As far as I know he uses a 5/16" flat faced joint, I believe its the same pin as Schon but Schon has a piloted joint. I love the way Schon cues hit, I would not say that JCC has the same hit as Schon though. Tony has some cues in the pipeline, I was thinking about having him finish one to my specs for me.

I have one that I bought off a player years ago in Houston that was broke. The butt cap was cracked and I sent it to Jackson for replacement. Its a four pointer with a linen wrap. I intend to play with it today. A good solid cue. Not fancy but fancy doesn’t play. I don’t compare one cue to another. They are all unique.

Love my Jackson! One of my best playing cues, love the hit and feedback. I own 20+ cues currently. It's just a great cue, I would highly recommend JACKSON!

I am really excited to receive mine tomorrow. It has been over 20 years since I sold the last one that I had. That was an older JCC logo cue though. This one is newer, with the Jackson logo.

Just cause you say sorry doesn't make it ok, haven't you seen Talladega nights?
