As you might have read on the front page of AZ, the Jacksonville event has kicked off Friday night with a very talented field. Some top players include Corey Deuel, Thorsten Hohmann, Louis Ulrich, Stevie Moore, Tony Crosby, and Mike Davis.

Tonight was exciting as John "The Bull" Ditoro took down Mike Davis 7-5 in the opening round. Another other close finish was local fan favorite Dave Grossman coming from behind to defeat Ron Park 7-6.

Tomorrow is starting off at 10am with great matches such as Corey Deuel v Tommy Kennedy, Donny Mills v Bryan Davalos, and Hammer Heads room owner Dan Lavoie v James Roberts. Stay tuned to AZ for the updated brackets and I will post late tomorrow night.

The players seem to be very happy as this is the first time the Seminole Pro Tour has timed out the matches for the entire weekend. Thanks also go out to the room owner at Bankshot Billiards, Jeff Scott.

That Extra Day....

It looks like adding a extra day to the tournament has reduced the turnout as only 54 players showed up. The last 2 Nothern Florida stops Melbourne and Springhill had 92 and 78 players. Adding an extra night in a hotel and having to take a day off from work probably kept some people away. I know it kept me away. It has just become too expensive for some of the "local shortstops" like me to attend. Guys like me show up because we like a chance to play with the big boys...we don't expect to make any money. When we do, its a suprise and usually doesn't cover our expenses. However, it looks like the Tour can succeed as a true "Pro Tour", and doesn't really need the local guys anymore. In the past years, the local guys were the backbone of the Florida tour....thats long gone. :( :(
 
Our goal is not to eliminate the "local players". Yes, we are looking to take this tour to a more professional level, and to do this we decided to time the matches out for the weekend. This allows players to have a great event without sitting in the pool room for 40 hours just listening for their name. By timing the matches, we needed to move the event to Friday night. In the future, we hope that you can see the schedule and get to the event on Friday night. It's only 9 times a year, so hopefully it shouldn't effect your work schedule too much. Let me know if you have any more questions and I hope to see you at our next tour stop in Holiday, FL early next month.

How are they drawing these brackets ? 5 players from Hammer Heads show up and have to play each other to start.....

Hey Kevin,
Timed matches this event, that is fantastic. I would have definetly come to watch some great pool this weekand if I had known. It is a very tiring day when you are stuck waiting in the pool room for hours. Looks like you had a real strong turnout with some great talent and big names attending. Hope you have a great weekand of tournament play, you and John always do a fantastic job running the tour.

I have to work on the weekends and can't make it to these tournaments. I would really like to see more pictures from the event. I like the idea of the timed matches hope that works out. Regards
 
9 times a year represents almost two weeks of holiday time for most people. Its no small amt Kevin, and it for sure is keeping the easy meat shortstops/enthusiasts away from the events.

If you ran the event sat/sun/mon, then the only ones who would have to stay another day would be those in money.
