Jacoby cue question

Im interested in buying a jacoby but I havent hit with one. I just wanted to get some information from anyone about it. Im mostly interested is the shaft, whether it's "flimsy" like meuccis or "stiff" like predators or is it more of a medium feel. Any information is greatly appreciated.

My other option is to find a reliable playing cue. My budget right now is around $500.

STIFF.......

sorry, but i disagree that the hit of a Jacoby shaft is stiff. you can have the shaft made any way you want. you can change the diameter, taper, probably the ferrule, and the tip.

i have a Jacoby, certainly dont consider it a stiff hit at all. but its not a little flimsy, whippy shaft either. i guess if the word you are looking for is medium, thats what i vote for.

It has a real solid hit with little, or no vibration. Forward weight. I really love the hit of a Jacoby.
I would also have to say medium.

Hit with one, a solid playing cue. Not to throw this thread completely off, but I have to say I've been entirely spoiled and in love with my Chuck Starkey. I bring it by itself in a 1x1 and it's all I need.

If a meucci were rated at a 1 and a predator at a 10 I would say that a Jacoby is about a 6 or 6.5.Ive had three Jacoby's(with a total of five shafts) and I've had them all turned down to 12.3 mm to 12.6 mm to get just the right feel to them, this takes them down to about a 4 on the "stiffness scale".

Let me see....Not Whippy, Little or No Vibration,

Can I get a Medium Stiff????.....LOL:)

You could actually throw out my response in the first place since I have never hit with one of thier off the rack production cues.......

The two I have came with 13mm shafts that had a conical taper that by the time you were just off the ferrule was already at 13.1 and going up....I had them both custom tapered locally to get them the way I want.....which did change them to a more medium to medium stiff hit.

The only Jacoby I ever owned had a 314 on it when I bought it. I never did play with the original shaft but I sure liked the way I played with it. From what I have heard Jacoby makes a good cue and I am sure you would be happy with it. If you are going to spend a lot of money on one then I suggest you try to find a custom cue maker to make a cue for the same amount of money. I think you will be much more happy. JMHO

Not sure "flimsy" is a word I'd use to describe the "hit" of a Meucci.

"Whippy", yes.. "Flimsy", no. I WOULD use "flimsy" to describe the quality of modern day Meuccis, though.

It's a shame. Meuccis used to be really good cues. I personally liked the whippiness of the shaft, but then again, I could easily adjust to the deflection characteristics of Meuccis. Some people can't.

I still think older Meuccis are still great cues. They aren't works of art, that's for sure, but good quality cues all the same. Varner, Reyes, Rempe, Joiner have all played with, and won major tournaments with, older Meuccis.

Love Jacoby cues

I own 4 Jacoby cues currently. They all hit differently. One is original shaft, one is a 314, one is a 3/8 pin into wood. One is a 3/8 pin into a phenolic insert in the shaft. So to lump all cues by a manufacturer into the same category has always made me shake my head. People who say ALL cues by "so and so company" hit alike just dont make sense to me. You can change the hit by the simplest of alterations. I love my Jacoby cues. David's commitment to quality is one of his strongest traits. Find a local dealer to let you try them out and order one. I have Jacoby cues from $500 to $2400 and like every one. They have a great selection of production type to one of a kinds. Take your time and don't rush into buying on a "friends" advice. YOu are the one that has to be satisfied. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your purchase.

I have two wood to woods

The hit of mine is far from the previous posters STIFF reply ! I love the hit and feel of mine! :)

My wife & I both have Jacobys...we like 'em. But DO keep in mind...it's not the arrow, it's the indian. The shafts our cues came with are 13mm, (forget the original tip..le pro?) with about 10" taper. "Stiff"??? Naw...I'd say medium. Especially when compared to the very stiff hit of my old Palmer original. Jacoby is a very nice cue with a good feel....there are worse selections out there, and I'm sure the better selections aren't all that much better. Let's place a value of 1 on a cheap $19.95 box store stick, a value of 100 on the best $$$$ custom, as far as playability and feel go. Jacoby is easily at 90...and those last 10 points are darned difficult to reach, or even discern, unless you are near pro in playing ability. We all dream of finding that 100 "magic" cue. Most of us are shooting with something a bit less. What is your location? If you were close to mine, I'd let you try a Jacoby...
