James White Cue

I just got my brand new James White cue, with a 3/8x11 joint.
I have two shafts, 3.7oz, and 3.6oz. I used both shafts today and played for about three hours.
The cue hits really powerful, stable, and consistent, with excellent feedback. The balance is perfect for me: all I needed to do was to stroke the cue ball gently.
I purchased this cue from Gary Nolan, he is a very polite, and professional gentleman. It has been a real pleasure doing business with him. Thank you, Gary.:)
I was using a Southwest but I have decided, after tonight's section, to use the James White from now on. I thought I might find it difficult but I had no problem with my english shots switching from the original SW shafts with LBM to the ivory ferrule JW shafts. I actually found it easier to make certain shots. In my opinion, a James White is not a cue which you have to hit the balls hard with, the smoother and softer the better.
I love the crisp and lively hit of this cue so much I just have to post this here to share with all of you.:D
I cannot believe a cue can look so beautiful and play even better, I just did not know it was possible.:D
Thank you.

This is the forearm, it has four high ebony points with some ivory inlays, with four veneers into a birdseye nose with a bushka ring.

The wrap is black real lizard.

This is the ebony butt sleeve, with some ivory inlays and a hoppe ring. I love the look of this butt sleeve so much.:)

The joint pin is 3/8x11, solid ivory joint, with maple stitch rings on the joint collars.

Awesome cue you've got there! Seeing these beautiful JMW cues makes me even more anxious to get mine. Sometime next year though!

This James White is really a great player, I am very pleased with the way it plays.
I like the classic look but I also feel that James White has put in a touch of his own. For example, the points are higher, and veneers are thicker and the combo is maple ebony maple ebony, rather than the mutiple color pattern commonly seen.
I also like the dimension of the butt which is not too fat. I have small hands and I just cannot play with a cue with a fat butt.
I dont know what it is but I really have a thing for the design on the butt sleeve.
I am so excited about this cue not only because of the design and workmanship, but also because it is an awesome playing cue. To me, the latter is even more important. It is actually the best cue I have ever own in terms of playability.

I remember this cue, very nice pickup!

I really liked the buttsleeve too. The inlay pattern is very clean, not cluttered at all and it gives off a certain sleekness with that rambow ring.

I noticed that. That's one of the things I love about it. I just love wood in it's natural state, no stain or dye, it is so much "warmer" for lack of a better word.
Are they veneers or actually recuts (ala Skip Weston)?

Me too ...

I am not a big ebony fan either, but that is a beautiful cue. The inlays are all so crisp looking!! Very tastefully done ...

That is exactly how I feel. "Sleekness" is the word I was looking for. :)
I had a Paul Mottey and I notice that it did not hit the same as the White. I am not sure if it was because of the different joint. I think, although I could be wrong, that the dimensions were also a bit different.

Beautiful cue, enjoy. I share your thoughts also, I have a James White with a 3/8 X 10 solid ivory joint, the cue plays great with outstanding workmanship.

Fred,
I am not sure about his waiting period, Gary, aka bushwacker has a few for sale right now.
I believe Mr. James White also posts here as JMW.

Cats,
Those are veneers, not recut points.

Pocono,
Mine has a 3/8x11 stainless pin, not the 3/8x10 pin. The ivory joint is solid flat faced. I have to try other James White with different joints to know if the joint makes a different. Regardless, I love this joint very much. I am glad to hear you like yours, too.

I usually do not post review of cues that I have purchased here on the forum, but I cannot help it because the hit of this cue is really just so impressive.

I firmly believe that a great cue maker does not only make a cue with outstanding workmanship but also great playability. Since I am going to play with this cue, I do not want it to be super fancy to the point when I will be afriad to use it; but I do not want to use a plain janes either ( I know, I know...it is all vanity, isn't it...). I want something that looks elegant and classical, but not too busy. This cue is just perfect.:)
