A sudden quiet came over the room when Cool Cat Ray Martin ,a former several time world champion came
into the room, grown men spoke in hushed tones to the younger ones
That's him, that's really him,son that right there is a world champion,I saw him do this back then,i saw
him do that.
Nothing was particularly unusual about his appearance but even the most careless put a muzzle on his
lips as they watched him greet the patrons, one after another, old Harry the owner did not wait for him to
order ,he brought his drink and personally cleaned the balls and table with that little orange cloth
Finally the balls were racked and Ray won the lag for the break,no foolish coin tossing, everything was done
with dignity, And then he removed his cue from his Fellini case that he must have had for umpteen years.
suddenly we are transported to another era,a purer ratified air of what some might call formality,no that's not
the word, decency, more than that dignity
Grown men still tell tales of what happened as he carelessly ran ball after ball after ball until there was no
ball left, how many did he run? Plenty.. And when he finished some of the young ones were allowed to approach
with respect,yes sir Mr Martin,
Someone said "can I see your cue, maybe hit a ball?"
A quiet suddenly engulfed the room until the world champ replied,"SURE SON THAT'S WHAT IT'S FOR'
Many that were there can tell you in detail many shots and impressions, some describe touching his cue with awe
It was nothing fancy,no mud flaps no coon tails,it seemed to say ALL BUSINESS,form followed function
It was beautiful in simplicity and elegant in design and performance.
Soon everyone was allowed their turn ,and respectively did they honor the man and his cue. Both sort
of symbols of something good, something clean, something classy. Something approaching straight pool itself.
Some little fella with tears was heard to say,"someday I'm gonna get a cue just like that"
This James White cue is a cue like that. It's what you would expect a champion to cherish as his own,
but you don't have to be a champion to feel like one when you own this beauty
Contact me by phone and my wife will be pleased to send you a picture electronically.
But until you have it in your hands you won't know what I am trying to help you feel.
It has been said you can't buy class, but for $1750 you can make a pretty good effort and
take a step in that direction.
This cue is not one I am worried about selling,it is one that deserves a fine home
with a loving master
