What you have here is a funny play on Kanji characters. All names in Japan are spelled with some combination of Kanji. Kanji characters all have one main and in some cases several 'sub' meanings when standing alone, but when two Kanji characters are placed together, the newly formed word can have a totally different meaning.
For example:
Ishihashi is a name comprised of two words Ishi which means stone, and Hashi which means bridge. Put them together and you have Bridgestone.
Lot's of western names also appear pretty funny when directly translated into another language. (Shoemaker, Letterman, and of course Tiger Woods when you think of it can appear funny from a standpoint.
