Anbody have any biographical information or stories on Jay Flowers?

He was from the Tampa area and made some very nice tooled leather cases in the 1980's. I am working on a section for his cases in my new Palmer Collector web-site. If you have any photos, literature, etc. please send them too.

The Flowers cases, and other case photos and information, can be viewed at:

Collectible Cases

Thanks,

Chris

I don't know what Tate and jHendri put up (pictures,I assume),but on this WebTv Classic, not only do I get a big blank page, but it fills up my cache and I can't read/see any other posts on AzB. JAM does that too..
When it comes to Flowers cases, I have one of his first (if not THE 1st) Jeff-Q cases. It's the 2 butt-4shaft red lined tube interior tooled leather and has the name JAY FLOWERS down it's side. It has the large & small pockets on the side and the zipper closures still work perfectly. Someday, I may sell or trade it to a collector of 'pool stuff'...

Thank you Merylane - I did get his number from an old ad and left a message for him to call me on the machine - I'll let you know how it turns out. Anything you can send me would be appreciated - This e-mail will work palmercollector@aol.com

Also, I want to look into the info you gave me about Burton Spain. Are you still in contact with Peter Balner and if so you send me his e-mail address or some way I can get ahold of him? I want to show him the site and see if he can help from the historic perspective, photos of the shop, etc.

Thanks for you help,

Chris

They're just pictures and not big ones at that. I put them right in the A-Z site - maybe that's what's messing you up?

Can you e-mail, me pics of the case and any history? Please send them to me at palmercollector@aol.com

Hope you agree and I will credit you on the site!

Sup Tate! :D First of all, love the website you have created. I think it's really nice to show both collectable cues and cases, especially Jay Flowers and Dennis Swift. :D (Still being stubborn about paying $250+ dollors for these production cases when I can get a custom case for cheaper or the same price...go figure.)

I would like to get a D. Swift eventually, because he's the closest I can get to a Flowers right now. Nothing against Mr. Justis' workmanship, it's just something about these cases that I love but I can't explain it. After a lot of R & D on my part, I really like D. Swift's stuff. Same thing with Mr. Thomas' cases as well. That's the closes you're going to get to a Fellini, Ann Gore, and/or Centennial period! After he's gone, I don't think anyone else is going to pick up the tradition. :(

Oh by the way, I have been fortunate enough to hit a Palmer in my lifetime. It was a simple 4 pointer design, but it had the trademark "see thorough" plastic or whatever it was called in the butt...beautifulness. :D Keep up the good work Tate, I really like what you're doing.

havnt spoke to pete in a while, ill have to dig up his card for you.

he was going to do a reserection line a few years back, a limited # of old style designs, he wanted some help with, til he had a prob. with "cue sport"
(if i remember right thats the name of the co. that bought the rights to the palmer name, if not i appologize) and got discusted with the cue buss.

i know he will love the site, he has very fond memories of the old cuemaking days, and the old designs.

also i have a friend who has all the catalog cues, ill tell him about your site.

Thanks - I wil have some nice examples of Swift's work on the site pretty soon. I have an old case with 'SWIFT' tooled into the bottom - never saw that before but he said it's about 15 years old. Then I have one he made for a leathercraft store that is very refined, black and tan with a basket weave.

His Widowmaker cases are nice and can be had for $200 - $250 used. Like you said, why buy machine made mass production when you can get a collectible hand made case for the same?
