Jay just sent me a couple of pics that were taken at the last DCC. We were having dinner on that last Friday night to celebrate John's second (in a row!) win in the banks tournament. Jay was kind enough to give John some advice on his plans to produce some instructional DVDs and I was kind enough to pick up the tab. (Hey, when you can't play, you've gotta pay.):):)

Nice Bill! I'd sure love to spend a day or two with Mr. Brumback, I'm guessing he would make one heck of an instructor!

I know that he does give lessons and I have heard feedback from several people who have taken lessons from John -- all very positive.
 
I was lucky enough to have a lesson from John, maybe his first. It was at SnookerS pool hall in Cincinnati in the late 90s or early 2000.

4 hours with a man that convinced me how to make pockets Bigger when you are banking. Well worth the time and money spent.

I can only imagine John getting better as an instructor. I will be purchasing his videos when they come out.

John KNOWS Banks, and how to make them. He is a quiet unassuming man, but he has a lot of knowledge locked up in that head of his. Getting him to share it is the problem. He made one very telling statement at that little dinner/confab. He said that any reasonably good player that learned what he knew about Banks, would now be able to beat him (but not all the time). He didn't like that idea, since he may be the best banker going right now.

He is not quite ready to let loose of his treasure trove of Bank knowledge. But at age 46, I think the day is coming soon when he will. John reminds me of the old school hustlers who didn't want to teach the younger players anything. They would tell you to "learn it on your own, just like I did."

Bill is a great guy who has one of the largest collection of old pool photos in existence. It was really nice of him to take an old pool bum like me to dinner. I hadn't had a decent meal in days. Man cannot exist on hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken wings and ice cream alone! :smile:

And besides playing so damn good John is a very nice guy. He reminded me about seeing me play in Kentucky 25 years ago. He was a young'un then and didn't even play in the tournament. He told me he had heard of me and wanted to see me play. I did play pretty fair back then, especially Banks. It was nice of him to compliment me that way.
 
And another thing

I just got an email from John telling me that Greg Sullivan has asked him to be a player representative for Diamond Billiard Products. Greg is also going to present John with the Diamond table that was used in the finals at Derby City and that's the table John will be using when he gives lessons and, I presume, when he produces his instructional DVDs.

Several people who are interested in having lessons have asked me for contact information for John. I don't think he will mind my sharing his email address, which is: jhbpool1@aol.com.

Correction!

After reading this thread, John wanted to make it clear that Greg Sullivan did NOT give him the pool table outright. Greg made John "a great deal" on the table used in the DCC finals. I'll take responsibility for misinterpreting John's email to me. :embarrassed2:

John also wanted me to pass along the fact that he is very proud to be a player representative for Diamond Billiard Products and hopes to have a long lasting relationship with the company.
