Hi everyone. New to the forum. Great site.

I was watching the live stream last night during the Jason Shaw versus Rodney match. Since it was on table 1, they had video cameras setup.

Forgot which rack, but Rodney questioned a good hit and then the matched stopped as they got into a little conversation about it. I think Rodney gave up and said that's fine whatever but it must have affected Jason to some degree.

Then they said check the video, so they did and it was ruled a good hit. Reminded me of the Super Bowl blackout and how a delay can cool the winning team because of the delay.

Anyone else catch that?
 
bad hit review

i doubt that reviewing of the bad hit had anything to do with his next match..Dennis Orcollo break and run out almost ever rack in the finals ..i think it was 8 or 9 racks out of the race to 11 they played.
 
I agree, doubt it had any affect on the finals with Dennis.

My thoughts was more about the what-if a player made a good shot and sank a ball, but the opponent said I think it's a bad hit - let's roll the tape to see. It's the first time I've seen a replay decision in a match. It is this delay that I think could cool someone that was hot.

To clarify, first time I've seen a replay doesn't mean a whole lot as I am a returning leisure player after a 12-year hiatus. Re-educating myself thought this forum.
 
If it looked to be a close hit. It is the responsibility of the other player (Rodney in this case) to call the ref in to watch the hit. if he does not, then the call goes to the shooter.

In that match, there was no cooling Rodney down because of a delay.
 
The Hit

When an accomplished player, like Rodney Morris, doesn't call a referee to observe the hit, it is his fault. The stoppage of the game can only be construed as a "move", in order to break the opposing player from his rhythm.

Rodney is a great pool player. He knew better at the time. Of course, in the heat of battle and the desire to win, certain things happen.

Lapse of judgement is one of them.

FWIW, it was a good hit. The action of the frozen ball and the ball nearest the pocket reacted accordingly.

It was in what turned out to be the final game of the semi-final match -- the eleventh game, with the score 6-4 Shaw. So it didn't really affect the outcome of that match.
 
It looked like a bad hit to me and I definitely heard 2 collision clicks. There was discussion of a video review, but it wasn't clear to me if they actually did. Shaw got BIH but missed a makeable shot - perhaps a result of the "incident". But Rodney didn't get out either and Jayson finished him off. It certainly had no effect on Jayson for the next match. It wasn't that big of a deal.

Rodney was a bit tempermental that match...
 
It was reviewed and determined to be a good hit. I was impressed they were able to get it done in about four minutes without any advanced warning. Part of the problem was the referee (the TD?) was not watching during the shot for whatever reason. You can't always make a good call from your chair anyway.

It was a bit of a shark move but Rodney sold it well.

Good to see Rodney playing well again. Both he and Dennis beat the 15 ball ghost in practice.
 
Rodney was playing great prior to that match. I was hoping he'd get to the finals. Shaw is one great player. However, Orcollo is on a different level than everybody right now
 
I am not sure how effective looking at video replay is for determining if it was a legal hit or not. The video playback is at 30 frames per second. Unless you get lucky the chance of seeing which ball was hit first seems small to me.
