This is a 3x6 Butterfly with our new interior. With our interior you can use the case as a top-loading case or unzip it all the way as you like. The lower pocket is 15" and has a jump-handle compartment. Upper pocket is 8" - both pockets have L-zippers for easy access. The case is made with rich deep brown nappa trim - butter soft - and light elephant print nappa in medium brown. Very elegant.

Empty weight is 3lbs.

The price on this case is $475 shipped. First come first serve as always. I prefer paypal to paypal@jbideas.com

Thank you for looking.

Hi John, that is a very nice case. One of my friends has one the belonged to Jerry Olivier, it is the nicest leather one could want around the cues.

Hey john call me if it don't sale by Tuesday I might take it..

Will do Art. For everyone else it's tough for me to convey how nice this case feels in your hands.

Let me talk a moment about the interior. In my opinion this is the best interior for this type of case that exists. Why?

Because it's made of soft cloth that polishes your cue every time it's inserted, because the cue is fully padded, and what's really different is the ease of use. I have made it so that you don't have to fiddle with flaps and floppy sleeves to store your cue.

All you do is insert your cue just the same as if you were using a tube case and remove it the same way. Not a big deal for those of you who are used to how tube cases work. But for all of you who have the butterfly cases with the loops like I used to do them or with the flaps like other similar cases are made you understand the convenience here.

I was asked recently if I would carry a high-end cue in this case. When I owned Instroke I regularly carried up to 50,000 dollars in cues in these cases. When I showed up to a tournament in Europe I generally had two 16x32 butterfly cases and up to four 6x12 butterfly cases filled with cues. We traveled across America in all directions one summer with about 30k in cues kept in such cases stored in the back of a Ryder rental truck. And I kept about 30k in cues in one that were sent to me by a friend to present on the East Coast one winter.

The only thing with this case is that it cannot take a severe direct hit in the center without there being some chance of damaging the cues. BUT one time Hans Joerg Bertram and I watched as TWO of our cases were manhandled by the baggage handlers with around 35k in cues in them. We were bumped from the flight but we watched in horror as the two bags were thrown onto the conveyor and other hard suitcases thrown on top of them. One of them got halfway up the belt to the plane and FELL off.

So we had to sweat it for 24 hours until we got to Vegas and could check on the cues. Once there the bags were sitting there intact and there were just a few scuffs on the leather. Opened them and every cue was intact and unharmed. So I am not recoomending that you ship your butterfly case like that BUT I am saying that I have used them for 15 years without issue.

Just wanted to put that out there to address anyone's fears about the protective nature of these cases.

I would not ship or throw around a soft case in the first place. I have buddies that are so paranoid that they baby their hard tube cases from scuffs and are so careful with them it's funny (that includes me). I'm sure John's Butterfly will provide adequate protection for my collection and I would mainly use it for transport from my house to my car to the pool room or someones house. If I do bring it up in the air it will be in my luggage empty and my cues will be in the tube cases in a transport bag. You wouldn't throw a $2400 Ferragamo briefcase around now would you? John's case may not be $2400 but it looks, feels, smells and is built like one and with your cues in it, it is and for some here it's 3 times that.

Take for instance in photography. There's Lowepro & Pelican bags that are built like tanks to protect thousands of $$$ lenses and camera bodies, which can be had for $150-300. Then there's Billingham which provides only 1/3 protection but costs 4 times more. Why?

Bottom Line: Another Hit in the history books John:thumbup:, great job! I love everything about it from these pics. I am sure I would love 'em more in person. I even like it way better already than my Ivan Belmonte Case which I only used once and now its just storage for cues. Count me for one Nappa Soft Black 4x8! It will match perfect & hold fine when I throw it in the back of my A8! Let me know when you get other colors [HINT} Coach Cream White or Nubuck Tan w/ Black Nappa trim...

PS. Are there color options on the Butterfly Interiors? Also, call or PM me when your free so we can build my other 4x8 we PM'd last night. After October production is fine with me. Take as much time as you need.

Love the story, and explanation of how the CASE FUNCTIONS, and Protects. LAST Question is the "Sides" you talk about are they JUST THICK Leather or is there also Stiffness Material to Absorb SHOCK!

Very nice John.

I still love the buffalo butterfly you made for me 12 years or more ago. Are the new interiors retrofitable?

Thanks
Courtney

Yes they are. I have to make the Instroke version a little shorter but we have already done several.

The shipping is a killer though at about $50 an interior due to the size of the box. The interiors are just $40 each.

I am not exactly sure what you mean but the flat sides of the case are done with the leather bonded to a semi-hard board with two layers of foam rubber in between. The spine and zipper gully don't have any padding because the cues are protected by the edges of the boards inside.

Just so you know, this case looks and feels incredible in person. Richer looking in person than in these pics, they seem a little washed out. How do I know? I own the only other version of this case in a 4x8. John & I worked on the leather selection together and it came out awesome! Thank you, John.

I also own an original AVP butterfly case, which I love, but John's version is a really nice upgrade to those: great pockets on the outside, including a separate jump butt section; additional protection added to the sides; better interior that you can load upright if preferred; and you can still overstuff it with cues as with the original AVP. So if you like to carry around a couple extra cues to show folks, this is your case.

The leather is so nice on this case, my wife wants a purse made from the same leather - it is very "Coach-like" in quality.

I almost want to buy this one too to have a spare, but I have too many cases at the moment. Congratulations to the person who pulls the trigger...You will be very happy!

Thanks Dave,

Karen is looking forward to making Diane's purse. I have asked to her allow me to keep the cue case division when her designer purse business blows up and she gets famous. :-)
