Jerry Brock passed away this morning

Jerry had quiet a life with all his running on the road over the years. When growing up from what I have read, he played some seriously strong straight pool in his day and later 9 ball and one pocket. When I first saw him in gear , he was playing Wade Crane races to 11 for 500 a set. Jerry won the first 3 or 4 games and had to sit down for awhile and when he got back at it , the score was around 3 or 4 to 9 on Billys side. The second set went about the same way. He played great, but he didn't get to shoot as many times as Mr. Johnson did. He was always ready to go back after it though. After the match with Billy, Eddie Oconnel asked Jerry for the 8, Jerry just raised a middle index finger on that one. Eddie just laughed and so did Jerry.
I sweated Jerry playing Johnny Ross once. Jerry was giving up the 8 in races to 11 for good money. After loosing 3 sessions, Johnny asked for the 7, Jerry just told him , he didn't deserve the 7. Johnny was playing real good at that time, but Jerry was playing the same speed in my mind as Wade Crane during those sessions. Jerry won that tourney in Greensboro when this match was taking place. Some of the players there besides myself and Tim ( from the post above) were Wade Crane, Walter Glass, Dave Bolman, Frank Fisher, Roy Trivett, and one of the strongest, Bill (Erving) Lawson.
If Tim , would answer back,,he once had a real good story where Jerry was playing Allen Hopkins on the bar box that would be of great interest to a few here
