Jerry's Billiards, Pasadena, CA - Another one biting the dust?

The 7am - 10pm hours of entertaining and hospitality are perfect for the decerned for pleasure.
hell, by 10pm one should be snuggled up with honey bunny.

Now that the leader has checked in the future is great again,
by 7am cards/match ups are prepared for the post at 1pm
Jerry's has heavy league play. No way they are getting league matches in by 10pm. Without the league folks, they are most likely done.

On a parallel note, didn't the Reservations want to WIN the recent vote, to close down all casinos/card rooms in CA unless they were on reservations. I'm I getting this right?

I didn't click the link, so, I don't know if it's a proposal or a done decision by governance. If Jerry's place wants to do business, likes its community/location, figure out what leagues could do their games earlier. If the hired help can make its money earlier in the day? can't be a bad thing

They are appealing the decision that's already been made. League play is during the week so I doubt they can make adjustments. In the past, I've played APA matches that started at 7pm and ended at 1am. They'd have to start when people are still at work to have adequate time for league matches.

What's ironic, tho maybe not.
If a bar/restaurant wants to open and adds 8 bar tables, is it by their laws now a pool room?

This area of Pasadena is not nice, use to drive 210 Freeway to work three this area.

Most people only know two things about Pasadena. Rose parade, and Rose Bowl.

That is not real deal Pasadena, it is lots of very bad area.

Didn’t want to shortchange you Broadway musical aficionados.

There are actually two lines that are relevant in today’s political environment…

“Oh yes we got trouble here, we got big, big trouble)
With a "T" (with a capital "T")”

The Zoning Board thinks they should operate from 7AM to 10PM. They would rather close at 1AM. Evidently the ZB is not familiar with pool halls. According to the article, a pool hall is no longer an allowed business in that area. Jerry's has been in business since the 80s. I've been there a couple of times.
Or maybe they are. In the past trying to rent space for a pool room I found zoning set up to make it impossible. Often parking requirements. I remember looking into a place and for a pool room they wanted 3 parking spaces per table. I would have needed 45 spaces. There was not that many in the whole strip center. Mean time a thrift store about the same sq footage called for 4 parking spaces. Without coming out and saying so a city can basically tell you they don't want any pool rooms in their town. To be honest, I don't want to be where I am not wanted. It just isn't worth it.

Wtf, bungalow heaven and it’s surrounding area is “not nice”? Quit your word salad. My sister in law lives there and they do quite well financially. They have a nice classic craftsman’s style home. +1M$.

I once went to Jerry’s since I saw it during one of my visits to said sister in law. Went in and said “nope”.

Do you see the crime stats for area? You go there if your family had money they would be in San Merino were the people with bucks live.

The Million buck you brag of isn’t much in Southern California Real Estate value.

Really don’t matter what people think, after read article they the city are only changing business hours in area,

Cities have right to do so, and you as business owner can appeal.

Wonder what Police Department presented to City father vis power point?

Tonight is meeting that will decide fate of hours.

There are bad areas and there are some VERY nice areas. All the neighborhoods surrounding the Langham Hotel (formerly Huntington Hotel) are large, multi-million dollar estates. The neighborhoods surrounding Cal Tech are also very nice with multi-million dollar homes as well. There is soooo much more to Pasadena other than the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl. You wouldn't know that thought because (admittedly) you used to drive through on the freeway. Most city's lower end areas are by the freeway. You failed to mention Old Town Pasadena, Cal Tech, South Lake Area, The Art Center, Pasadena Playhouse, Pasadena Civc Auditorium, I could go on. I've lived within 10 miles of Pasadena my whole life and can say it is a gem.

Bungalow Heaven is very nice. Some of the streets make you feel as if you've stepped back in time with impeccably restored Craftsman homes. Unfortunately, the neighborhood is next door to an area that's not so nice. The further east you go in Bungalow Heaven, the better it gets.

I'm not sure when you last visited and stepped inside Jerry's but it went through a bit of a resurgence about 10 years ago due to change of ownership. Historically, it was a "carambola" room with 4 or 5 three cushions tables with loud ranchera music booming from the jukebox. There were a few Gold Crowns as well. All tables were poorly maintained and it wasn't really a place people I knew went to play. Mind you, this was also a time when there were several room options to choose from which is not the case anymore. The new owners cleaned the place up and over time renovated the interior. They removed all but two of the 3 cushion tables, restored the four Gold Crown I's, installed several Diamond 7 foot tables and one Diamond 9' table. It's not a bad place for league play.

Crime is everywhere and there are much worse neighborhoods in the area. Bungalow Heaven is a nice neighborhood with homes ranging in price from just under $1M to $2M+. San Marino is very nice. I live a few blocks south in North San Gabriel. I'd call San Marino more of a neighborhood than a city. There is very little commercial space in San Marino with most of it being residential. Like any city, there's a wide range of home prices. Home prices range from $1.5 to $20M

Well back in H/S my School was part of Foothill Devision both Muir & Pasadena High were our competition.

So I have experience with City of Pasadena, then and later in life.

Area were Jerry’s is is not nice, I post like to crime stats people see fit to ignore.

Like I said Police Department showed up not to support Jerry’s.

Maybe they fell business closing at 20 would cut down call for service.

Yes crime is everywhere, punishment is soft.

What year was that? Pasadena went through a serious resurgence in the 90's. It all started with the cleanup of Old Town which brought in high end retail and many, many restaurants and bars. This used to be a VERY rough area riddled with drugs and prostitution. Not anymore. Old Town was my stomping grounds in the 90's with very lively night life and a very safe area to be walking the streets at 2am. It's still the same today. The North Lake area (where Jerry's is) used to be much worse as well as late as the early 2000's. No one I knew would go up there. It has gotten better since then but it's still not an area I would choose to hang out in. To say Bungalow Heaven is not a nice neighborhood is 100% untrue.

I have been going to, through, and work in Pasadena off and on since 1958.

The City fathers make rules for business to operate.

Being honest I would guess no one involved in this thread attended meeting about change in business hours.

Would be nice to know reasoning, but City Zoning always seem to win when they want something.

Pool Rooms are small businesses so they find it hard to fight City Hall.

Not like the owner of Mall who property might generate millions in tax’s.

Cool. I've lived in the Pasadena area continuously since 1978 and I'm in Pasadena proper almost daily.

IMO, Jerry's isn't winning their appeal and with limited operating hours, will ultimately close down. There's a saying that "nothing good happens after midnight" and I'm sure Bungalow Heaven and the surrounding neighborhoods believe this to be true and have pointed to the lone business open "after hours" as the root of "nothing good".
