A friend of mine is researching a old table and is wondering if anyone has heard of the manufacture and what quality the tables were.

I've been trying, with absolutely no luck whatsoever, to research the pool table that is in Jack's parents basement. The embossed brass plate says: " Jesse E. Jost, Pool & Billiards, Chicago". It is 9'x4-1/2', 3-pc slate, 1-1/2" thick. All metal contsruction (i.e.: structural members, legs and apron) with wooden tops on the rails. Leather drop pockets. Circa 1920-1950?
any information would be apprciated. Photos attached:

My recommendation would be to contact the Joss Cue Manufacturing Co. Chances are that your table was made by someone from that family many years ago. They might just have the history of it for you. It's worth an e-mail to them.

JOST =/= Joss

And even if Jost=Joss, there is no "Joss" family. Dan Janes and Bill Stroud worked together to make Joss cues and started around 1972. So no, don't pursue this avenue of investigation. It's a dead end.

Advice FAIL.:)

Post pictures of the table, Richm, if you are interested in an answer. You have arrived at the vortex of billiards related knowledge and you will find the answer here if you give what is needed.

That said, my guess is that " Jesse E. Jost, Pool & Billiards, Chicago" is a local retailer of a major brand. I have a turn of the century Brunswick that has a local's nameplate on it.

Brunswick has a great website with pictures of old models.
