I've been posting a few pictures of the different style cases I make, but don't sell. I also mentioned that I make cues for fun, but don't sell. I've been asked to post a few pictures of cues I've made. This one means a lot to me. A good friend of mine was dying of cancer about 6 months ago and they gave him 3 months to live. He continued to show up for leagues and tournaments as long as he could. I made him a cue and case and gave them to him and he said it was the nicest thing anyone has ever done for him. That was a nice compliment. After he died I made a Plexiglas case and mounted it with his cue in it on the wall where we mostly played pool, along with a plaque.
Just to head cue critics off at the pass, I will mention that I don't claim to be a great cue maker and have very Mickey Mouse equipment, such as a $200 Harbor Freight lathe. I just picked up an older West German wood lathe, but I'm not capable, either by equipment or talent, to do inlays, so I just try to get the best looking woods I can to use in my cues. So, since I just make cues as a hobby, maybe the naysayers can keep their comments to themselves. Actually, I could afford any lathe on the market, even a CNC machine, but I like the challenge to make the best cue I can with limited equipment. I don't even have a tapering jig or bar. I wouldn't recognize one even if someone shoved one up my butt.
I've made cues and cases before for people who actually died and gave them to the family of the deceased. I also had their pictures airbrushed onto the cue with their name on it. I made one for the wife of a great friend who was a cop for about 50 years. I had his picture airbrushed on the cue of when he was a rookie cop and also a picture of his first badge, along with his name. I might post a picture of this one later. But, I was glad to give this cue and case to Mike before he died so he could get some enjoyment out of it. He used the cue and case every time he played until he died and was really proud to show it to everyone, even people he didn't know.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
