Hello all.. I have a chance to buy this cue locally.. I have always liked Jims work, and from what I have seen he makes a wonderful playing cue.. My question would be about pricing since I am new to the custom buying world..

Specs: Baxter cue with a Mark Baer full splice blank, 4pt. cocobolo and curly maple, G10 radial pin, 2 shafts, 1 with and ivory ferrule.

I would like to own this, and would love Jim to make a set of JP's for it!!!

Any help on a reasonable price would be as always much appreciated....

I'm no expert either but I would have said at least 600.00. BUT, I have never priced Jim's work before.

I am going off of what I have paid for a similar cue by a different maker. That cue with 2 shafts and 1 ivory ferrule, I would pay 600-650 without feeling cheated.

Why not just PM Jim directly and ask him what a fair price he would think would be for this and what he would charge for a set of JP's.....I mean you might as well go directly to the source and by all accounts Jim is a fair guy....just saying is all.

Estimate

I shoot with one of Jim's cues right now with a Bear blank. I had him make the butt only since I shoot with an aftermarket shaft. I paid $300 for the butt. I think it would have been $450 for the shaft as well. So I think $500-600 is pretty reasonable. Now that Mark passed on, I don't know if his blanks are in higher demand, but they play great and I love the high and low sharp points. Few makers seem to do this anymore. Good luck it's a great looking cue-Ryan

I will agree with EJ.

Thanks EJ and GoldCrown.. I didn't think to do that beforehand.. I ended up speaking with Jim and he was very helpful... Nice guy..

Well guys unfortunately the seller would not budge one bit on his $700 pricetag... I love the cue but for that price I had to pass.. There's always tomorrow.. Thanks again for all the input y'all..

Great Cue

If I was you I would pay $700 and then you would have yourself a great cue and you could make the current owner happy as well! But you probably shouldn't listen to me cause I am the owner.

In any case, I have a friend listing this for me cause I have been pretty busy with work and not a lot of time to respond to inquiries. I am willing to budge.... so lets talk turkey and make it happen!

Thank you,
Matt

700 is a little steep. 600 is fair. Settle at 650 and everyone is happy. I have a Jim Baxter cue, plays great.

Better yet

Contact Jim directly. He's got some beautiful woods and can make something just for you.

My apologies.. Seems I made a typo on my last post.. I did not proof read as I should. The price that MGM3 had on the cue was less than what I had posted, just not where I wanted to be.. I have decided to get with Jim and see what we can come up with. He has been very helpful to me thus far.. This will be my first new custom cue hopefully so wish me luck!!

Good Luck

Good luck with whatever direction you go!

Cue still is for sale..... so please send me a pm if anyone is interested. Not trying to highjack your thread.

Thanks,
Matt
