I found the signature of Jimmy Caras on the back of a Billiard hall business card.
I compared to other known signatures, and see a similarity but not exact.
What says you, real or written by someone else?
I have several books with his autograph dating from 1949 to 2001. The signature you have looks close enough and I doubt that anyone would try to forge it in that context. Sometimes he does a wide "r" in Caras and sometimes it is narrower. A 1996 autograph (to Mike Shamos!) looks very close to yours, with a clear lift between the r and the a and what looks like nn instead of mm. The C is distinctive and matches.
You want to keep in mind that no two signatures, even from the same person, will ever be exactly alike. If they are, it's machine signed. Autograph collectors know this.
just a random comment,
but if i am giving someone my name and address I would not "sign" my name, which would be hard to read, I would "print" it out.....so if the signature is different it could also be because he wanted it to be easily readable.
I have a copy of Jimmy's Book from way back and its autographed... looks pretty much exactly like this... especially the "C" and "r" in Caras. Not that its definitive proof or anything I'lll try to snap a pick and post it so you can compare.
