My team has qualified for the APA nationals in Vegas. I obviously want to ensure maximum safety for my cues. Has anybody here used one of these? If so, what is your opinion? Any better suggestions?
TIA,
Steve.

Hi Steve,

I've been using the Porper carry bag for three years. It has covered at least ten coast to coast trips. It looks like the day it arrived here. As does my Porper 2/4 leather case. I highly recommend it. You might find one or two plastic tie wraps. I close it with them as TSA will not let you lock it. Upon arrival at my destination, I cut the wrap as short as possible and reuse it on my return trip! My only problem so far was with a new Southwest Airlines agent that asked me to sign a note saying Southwest was only responsible for loss of the bag, not damage to its contents. Go for it!

Steve,

I use Porper's carrying case. Just shove my regular case into Porper's bag and I am ready to go. Actually, if you are really creative, you can usually fit 2 cue cases into one of Joe's bags. (Stefanie Boch and I used to put 2 predator 2X4 cases into one of Joe's bags. Of course it was really heavy, but it worked)

All the girls from the West Coast who play on the WPBA use Joe's carrying case. Stefanie Boch, Jenny Lee, me. After 9/11, we all bought huge suitcases to put our cues in because we weren't allowed to take our cases as carry-on luggage anymore. But it was a pain because we didn't really pack enough to fill those huge suitcases...so our stuff would get all messed up. So, when Porper came out with his "luggage" made specifically for cue cases....it was great!

I haven't seen any other models by other manufacturers....so I can't compare. But I would definitely recommend this one.

Looks like the "ayes" have it. I'm going to get one.
Thanks again for the responses.

BTW, that home made one was pretty cool too, but I trust Porper's construction techniques more than my own. :p

Steve, you might know I've tried it! I did modify mine slightly. I had a couple of luggage straps sewn around it, the kind with the heavy duty snap closures like you find on backpacks and other outdoor gear. They're located about halfway between the center and each end. I think this ads to the overall protection offered by the case in that it will prevent the case from coming open in the event the zipper were to break or be left open by TSA's employees. This modification cost me about $20 total including purchasing the straps and having them sewn on. It might be overkill, but to me it added a little more security. I usually roll my Instroke 2x4 Cowboy inside a large towel before I put it inside the Porper case. This adds a little extra padding to the entire setup.

Where did you get the straps? Sounds like an excellent idea.

They're just the heavy duty black nylon luggage straps designed to go around suitcases to hold them shut. I think I bought these at Kohl's in the luggage dept. They just have to be short enough to go around the Porper case, or they have to be cut and have the buckles sewn back on the shorter straps. I can't remember, but I think the seamstress I took them to cut one end of the snaps off, cut the strap to the proper length, the re-sewed the snap buckle back on.

My version

I have been using a "hockey" style bag (available in many sporting goods stores...price about $40) for about 10 years...
It is about 40" long and I put my clothes packed neatly around the cues and cases...advantage> One check-in bag that simply looks like a BAG !!
I do also use a few cable ties to add for the safety... been through many airports around the world and no problems.
***special note***
I have found an alarm that I also use...it is called a "child alert" and when turned on ... if the cue case gets over 30'>50' from you / the alarm goes off...
NICE...not a bad idea even in your local room.

I purchased a travel case for Bob from Joe after 911 and it works great. It is affordable and ad Melissa says, you can put 2 cases in if necessary. I tend to pack clothing around the case, there is enough room for that too.

Do note, that the Airlines tend to open most cue cases, so DO NOT lock them or they will break your lock!

Congratulations on your win to Vegas and best luck while you are there.

Bob and I will also be attending to promote all of our upcoming events!

Thanks.
Will you have a booth or something out there? I'll try to look you up if so.

Hey,

No booth just walking the halls. You can always look us up at the Riv, we will be staying there. In addition, stop by the Fury booth, it's a great place to hang, play some pool and purchase their merchandise...they rock! You can find us there or leave a message with them for us.

Keep us posted on your team names so we can come and watch you all!

Looking forward to meeting you!
