Joe is quite a craftsman and he has made some incredible cues over the last 20 years. You don't see too many around anymore. Each one is hand crafted, although there may be several of a particular design. He used a variety of joints over the years, including his own - which has a cone pilot on the pin. Later cues have 3/8 X 10 pin.
He is into high art, so you never know. He uses a lot of buck horn and ivory. He uses stone and exotic skins. My favorite Porper cues are one of the 5 cues he made with stones, such as lapis and chrysocolla . I had an incredible cue of his that had intricate lines of ivory, large sections of staghorn, and tiny diamonds of ivory. I like the way they play - but everyone has different taste.
Porper cues generally command a decent value in the aftermarket. He has
pretty much stopped making cues for the time being but you never know when the flame will be rekindled.
Going rates used - plain jane Porper with ivory ringwork - $350 - $400. Older point designs - $500 - $600. Ebony and Ivory "Tuxedo" cue - $1000 - $1300. Fancy cues, $1500 - $2200. Art type of cues $2000 and up.

Evidently he's now using a Drexler, but last summer I saw Santos at Hardtimes in Sacramento, and he was playing with a very nice Porper. I seen Joe's cues at the BCA show, and they appear to be very well made with a lot of inlay work. I've never had the opportunity to hit with one.
