I bet it plays very well. :)

I have a purpleheart sneaky convert which is finished differently.

Will post pictures soon. :)

I can't wait to see the pictures!!!

The one I have is the same finish also. I would have never thought that I would like a satin finish, but I absolutly love the feeling of it. I wish all my sneakies had that finish.

I agree!!!

What does this cue look assembled? The shaft being black and the butt being stag/horn...I don't get it. Does this have to do with a desired hit? or the signature JoeyQ hit?

thanks!

It is one of the signature qualities of a Joey cue. For me, the feedback from the staghorn joint feels very good. At first, I asked Joey to have staghorn on the shaft too, so that it would match. He told me that it would be a better hit with phenolic on the shaft so I took his word for it. I would rather have playability over looks. Now I'm used to the off colored joint.

Hopefully Joey will see this and give his more informative input.

Another cue maker who did this was Harvey Martin. He didn't use staghorn though. So the reasoning behind why he did it is a mystery to me.

I will try to take a full cue picture for you ASAP. But for now, here is a picture of a Harvey Martin Joint:

I don't know what Harvey Martin's reasoning for that except it just looked good I think.
Several makers of course have made that two-tone collar ( Zylr, Tad among them ). Tad was taught by Harvey to make cues of course.
I don't know who started the staghorn collar joint but Bill Hagan's cues were the first I saw them on. Then Zylr ( Kerry Zeiler ).
Finding pieces that are clean and not needing bleaching is a good adventure by itself.
Kerry taught me how to cut, season and thread them. They are a lot of work but worth it I think.
Ivory would be much easier to use but stags are more durable imo.

I think you are in fantastic company, taking "cues" from the greats.

California just breeds great makers AND players. damn.

That Harvey Martin style joint/collar has always been one of my favorite looks on a cue!

I once had a Zylr sneaky that had that phenolic/stag configuration that was a monster player...
