Simply outstanding. John is not only a great player, as you know he is a fine person. He truely enjoys helping shooters that are just starting. John spent a tremendous amount of time working with Creole a couple of years ago and did it just because he wanted to help. Many many congrats to John on his new personal record. Pel :)

Indeed they are.

I watched him at the DCC playing Alex P. He ran about 140 pretty effortlessly. It was thing of beauty. Well, until the end of the match that is. Alex also got in stroke sometime during the match.

$Bill,

That's a helluva run! There may only be a couple of dozen people that have run over 400 in competition...

Wally,
John actually ran only 112, but still a thing of beauty. I think that it is MUCH easier to run balls in practice than in a game. I currently only keep track of my high run in competition. Near the end of the game the pressure mounts so much that the balls just seem much more difficult to make (you saw what happened to Alex and John near the end of their match - an 8 ball run would have looked pretty good for John the last hour of that match). Not to take anything away from these high run marks, it certainly requires a lot of skill.

Gulfportdoc still swears he did it Willie.

You and I both got it from Gulfportdoc, Willie. Doc still swears John ran the 400 but it was in Milton, FL just after Jamie's NO tournament. You sure about it, Willie?

It was in Milton at Hidden Pockets. I live about 10 minutes from it. John was about to give a lesson to a local and he said "let me just run until I miss then we'll start". So John went to crackin and lo and behold he ran 400. On his 401th ball he had a 3 ball cluster and missed the break out.

Hemi,
Sorry for the confusion, I was referring to the DCC last January, where John ran 112 balls (not 140) in the middle of his match against Alex Pagulayan (I was keeping score, and still have the score sheet). I was not in Gulfport (but dang, 400 balls is strong) - but I certainly believe John is capable of a 400 ball run. His patterns were excellent in Louisville, and neither he nor Alex missed any easy shots until near the end of the 5 1/2 hour-all night marathon match. Do you know what kind of table (specifically pocket size) John played on during the 400 ball run??

If I do recall, they are GC IV's

I think 400 balls is quite a feat, and I applaud John for continuing to play straight pool even in the "9-ball era." He is by far my favorite player after watching his match with Alex.

I am not trying to minimize the accomplishment (because to me a 40 ball run is nothing but sweet, forget about 400), but was the GCIV shimmed? I ask only for my own edification (as a straight pool fanatic). The un-shimmed new GCIV's have pockets the size of small swimming pools. With new cloth, the object ball just slides down the rail into the pocket even on fairly inaccurate hits. I've always thought that the serious straight pool players should be playing on un-shimmed GCIV's because Mosconi's record of 526 would definitely be in jeopardy. My single shimmed GCIV still has pockets slightly wider than the local Diamond tables.
