We got a call tonight that our dear friend John Ahlstrom who used to post on this board as Johnahl, died last Friday from a heart attack. He had just had knee replacement surgery.
John was an avid pool player that took over running the in-house league after I quit helping Bob Sandy last year. He loved computers and running the tournament software. He would come over to our house to fix Mike's computer. He always had a ready joke and the last email I got from him was on the 10th.
We met way back when, about 15-20 years ago at an 8 ball bar tournament and he could never get over how I beat him. Race to 2, I'm hooked on the 8 that's in the middle of the table and I call an incredible long rail kick and make it. The next game I run down and I know there is no pocket for my 8 ball, then play position for a bank on the 8, even though he has a ball blocking the side pocket. Well I call the side pocket and then banked the 8, followed his ball in and made the 8 for the win. He talked about that set every time I saw him.
John would give you the shirt off his back and we would sit and talk a lot at all the tournaments. I'm really sad and will miss John.
