Johnston city

Seen it

Well Beard, you certainly make a compelling case! In fact, this is "Defense Attorny" quality material!

I had heard about Luther ducking (allegedly) Harold in 9 ball but I didn't want to put that out there. Lassiter is my number 1 all time favorite player, so I didn't want to besmirch his reputation by posting what we just did.

What you and Jay wrote means a lot to me cause you guys SEEN him play, I only read about him.

Thanks Freddy!

I seen Worst bark at Lassiter to play some $200 a game 9 ball at Johnston City. The concensus was that Wimpy, who was the standing world champion, didnt want to risk his title, and perhaps risk his exhibiton tour money. Weanie Beanie had offered to stake Wimpy for 5k, but said Wimpy was happy getting his $150 a day for an exhibition. It wasnt so much that Wimpy was scared, but more like that he knew Worst was capable of beating anyone at any time. Especially since he knew Worst had Barbequed his road partner, Don Willis.

CornBread asked Eddie Taylor, when he was going to play Worst some Onepocket and shut that loudmouthed Dutchman up. Taylor responded, "I'm gonna git to him, Red, I'm gonna git to him." But he never did.

Hurley's ShowBar

I have not been there in years. I will actually be in Marion, IL in October. Last time I was in So. Illinois, it would appear that there is not a lot of action there. I went to a bar that has about 8 tables in Energy, IL. There was nobody gambling. I went to Gatsby's II in Carbondale and nobody else was even in there during the day. Anyway, I did not hit up DuQuoin where Sammy Soto used to rob folks at the the Corner Pocket. I have a buddy who lives there and may try to visit that spot as I have not been there in over 10yrs.

Just my two cents on the scene down there. A lot of history though to say the least with the tourneys in Johnston City!

Jansco's

I spoke with one of the Jansco son-in-laws at the DCC last year and he explained that the bar is still there and operational, but the family doesn't have anything to do with it now. They do still run the golf course, I want to say it's called The Stardust....someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I believe he posts on OP.ORG, but I'm not sure about here.

You are correct but everyone down there refers to the golf course as Jansco's. They had the best course for the price in the area....at least that was the case 12yrs ago...I cannot vouch for it now as I have not played there since then!
