Anybody have an idea as to the joint material here?
I am guessing phenolic. posibly ivory. Its an AE cue.
Also the thread type.

appreciated.

Matt,

The joint screw is referred to as a "Radial pin" made by Uni-loc. It's a custom screw just for cues and is very popular.

Some ivory looks almost solid white, so it's hard to tell. If you hold the joint up near a light, look at it from an angle, and slowly turn it, if it's ivory, you can see very light grain similar to wood grain. If it has these fine grains, it's almost certainly ivory, if it's solid white, it's plastic.

sounds stupid maybe but it looks exactly like these titan ferrules i used when u buff them to a shine. its a nice look. suppose to not hold chalk so it gets real smooth like a finish is on it

Yes, it's ivory, and you are correct it runs length wise like wood grain. It usually runs in "veins" some sections more visible than others.

On the "alternate ivory", which is synthetic but looks like the real stuff, the grain is more prominent.

use a magnafing glass if necessary, if the grain is really uniform bet on a sythetic Ivory

Plus 1 to Tates Post.

The joint is ivory sleeved over phenolic with a Uni-Loc radial pin. I think that joint pin was originally design by an orthopedist for a medical application.
