Joint ring

Does a joint ring on a cue shaft really have a purpose

If you are asking about the collars, yes, as Mr. Webb said, they add strength, especially radially.

If you are asking about actual rings behind the collars, then also yes, they add decoration.

If you are asking about functional purpose, then no on either. Plenty of cues don't have collars out rings.

I'm asking about collars, and a 5/16-14 pin , how many have you seen break that did have a ring or didn't have a collar

Limit the chances of things splitting by crossing your T's and dotting your I's.
Epoxies... Learn about them!
I go thru on an average of 300 bucks in epoxy every 5 to 6 weeks. I don't do it because I'm rich. I do it for peace of mind.

When you don't use a GOOD, slow drying epoxy that bonds. Chances of cracking increase

Let me know when I sound like a broken record. I'll glue it back together and play it some more!
Are you using epoxy to strengthen a plain joint or in conjunction with the rings?
