Joint swap

I really love the design of this Paul Mottey cue that I just picked up, just not the piloted steel joint. I'm giving some thought to sending it to Paul and having the joint changed to ivory 3/8-10 and having a couple new shafts made. Any guesses on the cost from you experts? and is it worth doing? I've played with cues that have been changed from steel to ivory from Schick and Wheeler and they played fine.

You need to call him and ask but just guessing I would say about 1,000.00 or so. Around 2 to 250 per shaft, 250 to 300 for the joint and then refinishing the cue.

I'd sell the cue and order one with similar decor and specs to your liking.

How much weight do you save by switching from as SS joint to a synthetic like Aegis?

the balance of the cue may be thrown off, also your talking about a good sum of cash. id live with it or sell it and get on the cue makers waiting list

i asked Barry Szamboti to change the joint in my cue to ivory,,,,,,,,,,i think hes too much of a gentleman to tell me to take a walk,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he just said no

Just Get A Different Cue. The Balance Of That Cue Would Be Forever Changed. Unless You Plan On Also Removing Weight From The Rear, Or Having Paul Change Something Else On The Cue To Adjust For The Removed Weight Of The Joint. Balance Is In My Opinion More Important Than Weight When It Comes To How A Cue Plays.you May Want To Determine What The Cue Would Weigh After You Take Off The 1.25 Ounces For The Joint Change. Than Remove Another 1.25 For The Weight Adjustment To Keep The Balance Correct. I'm Going To Guess That The Cue Ould Be Very Very Light After You Make Those Changes. Just My Opinion. I Understand You Like The Cue, But Feel You Would Be Better Off Just Ordering A Cue The Way You Want It.
