jointed cue questions

I am returning to pool after many years. I am looking to buy a jointed cue but I see that in cues there are a large variety of sizes and types of joints offered. I wonder if some of you could give me a discussion about joint choice. Are the differences cosmetic only or do they effect how the cue plays? If one is looking at a separate shaft like the OB-1, 314-2, or Z2 which joints are preferable?

The best advice is to hit balls with all the cues you can come across. Asking anothers advice, or what to use, is HIS or HER'S opinion. Find these things out on your own. We all have a differant touch, feel, and opinions on hits of cues as well as shafts. Your the only one who can say what is best for you. Any thing short of that is just an opinion, period......
Kind of like asking what car to buy?, or which Lady to marry.. Your opinion count more.....

Blud has it correct. The 'hit' of a cue...or even a type of joint...is very subjective, and two people will give completely opposite opinions of the same thing. The aftermarket shafts you mentioned are manufactured to fit any kind of jointed cue these days.

Not to mention, the type of tip, the shaft diameter, and taper of the shaft you use has (IMO) an even greater effect on the feel of the hit than the joint design.
