I was talking on the phone last night with Mike Zuglan, the Owner and Promoter of the Joss Northeast 9 ball Tour, and he has told me that
he has a full field of 64 prepaid players for the $15,000 added Tournament at The Turningstone Casino in Verona NY which is set for February 19-20, 2005. He also has told me that he has a waiting list with about 6 names on it as alternates in case a paid player cannot make it. Good luck to all that are entered and i will see you all there. Should be a great turnout and it is free for the spectators to watch...................................................mike

Hi Mike,

Mr. Z called me a couple of weeks ago to make sure I didn't get shut out. I've reserved a room for the event. Should be there all weekend. If Diamond ships the same tables we used in Vegas last week, they are fantastic!!!!! I don't know who is already entered. The UPA tournament in Pittsburgh the same weekend will probably shorten the field of top guns. Hope to see you soon.

Cardiac Kid, where did you reserve a room for the Turning Stone Joss Tour tournament?

Last time we were there was the Joss tournament at Syracuse. We drove up to Turning Stone one evening, following Ryan McCreesh and friends, and as I recall, they were in the process of building a hotel on the Turning Stone properties.

Funny thing in New York State, you cannot smoke, but can drink, and the Native Americans at the casino say you can smoke as much as you want, even though in New York State, but no alcohol whatsoever. The reason for no alcohol was because there was no hotel or lodging facilities nearby the Turning Stone.

Hopefully, this has changed. I would definitely like to know if there are any "nice" hotels nearby, preferably a Marriott. You can never go wrong with a Marriott facility (IMO).

The Pittsburgh tournament is the second leg of the North American Tour sponsored by the Hilton Hotels. Mike Davis (and Keith) paid their entry fee to Mike Zuglan for the Joss Turning Stone event a few months ago in Quincy, Massachusetts. However, Mike Davis will most likely play in the North American Tour because of his commitment to the UPA Tour.

And while I'm at it, does ANYBODY know of a "nice" hotel in Drexeline, Pennsylvania, for this weekend's $3,000-added Joss Tour tournament?

Any info on hotel accommodations for Turning Stone AND Drexeline would be very much appreciated!

Cardiac Kid, where did you reserve a room for the Turning Stone Joss Tour tournament?

Talked to Mike Zuglan, the Joss TD, this morning, and he is working on a package at the time of this writing for the Turning Stone event. There is a hotel on the casino grounds now, and he will be mailing out a letter informing folks about all the particulars within the next few weeks!

Drexel Hill, PA, is a difficult nut to crack relating to hotel availability. The closest place I can find is at the Philadelphia Airport, about 15 to 20 minutes away from the host pool room.

The BEST place I could find is a Courtyard Marriott near Drexel Hill, (215) 365-2200. $89 per night.

To the best of my knowledge, the Oneida Indian Tribes agreement with the State of New York was: You can run a gambling establishment but no liquor! Liquor can be consumed on premises if it is brought in from the outside. Because it is an independent "country", they are not subject to the smoking laws enacted in NY. To keep the competing state run facilities open, smoking is allowed in NY's Off Track Betting facilities! Go figure. I can tell you from past experience, it will be a great event. Mike will be mailing you an event information packet in the next few weeks. It will have all the lodging information included. Because of the bad weather potential, make arrangements for Friday arrival!

As I am somewhat "cheap", I usually stay at the Motel 6 located at the airport. Its about a ten minute drive to Drexline Billiards. I paid about $50 a night there. It safe, clean and I only sleep there. Good luck to you and Keith.

Me and my horse below taken at Salt City Billiards in Syracuse, near Turning Stone. If you ever get to Salt City Billiards, definitely try the Tortellini Soup! There is a $50 reward out for that vest Keith is wearing (my favorite). He ended up losing it that weekend, and I haven't been able to find another one like it!
