Joss Or Bob Frey Sneaky ?

I have a Frey Sneaky and have hit with a Joss. I went with the Frey. Basically, you are getting a custom cue instead of one just short of custom. Both great makers, but Frey's are custom.
 
I play with a Joss and like it alot but I think you would like the Bob Frey sneaky more. Most people agree custom cues are better, I chose Kevin Varney for my j/b, sneaky combination.
 
I personally would go with the Frey sneaky pete.

go with the frey SP by a mile!

i have owned many joss SP's and just one frey.

this cue i just got is unreal. it's twice the cue the joss is.

in hit and construction.

If money is not an issue, I would pick Frey in this particular instance. But I'm not sure if "custom" is always better. Imo, a Joss is hard to beat if you like piloted steel joints, by ANY maker out there.

Of course, I'm talking about how they play, as well as how they're constructed...tolerances, materials, etc. Aesthetically, Joss leaves alot to be desired.

I just got this same cue but in Rosewood.. excellent piece of workmanship!!

Frey sp is the way to go-vs- Joss

comparing Frey SP

I want a clean, firm, solid hit and as little deflection as possible. I usually play 8 or 9 ball. I currently use a Predator SP w/ 314, but sometimes I play great with it and sometimes I suck. It seems it gives me more trouble on 9 footers. I'm old school and have shot with conventional shafts up until last Dec.

I have to say that a Joss fitted with a 314 shaft is one sweet hitting cue. I know many players who use this combo, and my back-up cue was a Joss for many years as well.

I think you want to go with a conventional shaft, and a put a low squirt shaft on afterwards if the conventional shaft isn't working out, based on reading exactly what you wrote. Both the Frey and Joss will give you a clean, firm, solid hit, but neither will give you "as little deflection as possible." I smell a Joss with an OB-1 shaft in your future.

BTW, if you're old school, but shoot 8-ball/9-ball with a Predator or bar boxes (judging by your saying "it seems it give me more trouble on 9 footers"), I don't know how that sits with players who play 14.1 with Palmers and Vikings on 9' Gold Crown I's and II's. {insert smiley and winkie}
