hello, did the joss which are made now hit as good as the models from the mid.80 to 90. is the quality of the cues still the same.
how are the new ones made? i know that they use now a finger splice for the a-joint. are the forearms cored? did you ever hear of their new high performance shafts? please tell me anything you know about their cues.

They DO NOT use a finger joint in their cues anymore at the A joint. I was lucky enough to visit the Joss shop a few months ago, and Dan showed me the new construction technique. It is a one piece maple core inside the cue. He sleeves the forearm, handle, and butt sleeve onto a straight maple core. The cue is threaded at both ends - joint and butt cap, to keep the outside material compressed onto the maple core - he and Stephen have really put some thought into this design.

In my opinion, Joss cues hit better now than they ever had. I've owned their cues from 1990 on, and the latest has the best hit by far.
 
Nothing I've hit in the post production years can compare with the cues that were hand made. I had one in the late '70s or early '80s that I wish I had kept.
 
Ive said this in other threads, and Ill say it again: I love the way the old gold letter Joss cues hit, but the newer ones dont match up. I like the newer ones, but I personally like the hit of my old gold letter sneaky better. I have no clue about how they cunstruct them, but I know what I like, lol.

I think the best thing you can do is try one out. I am sure you are going to have people saying the older models hit better or vice versus. Really it comes down to your opinion.

I found a newish Joss on the buy/sell forums for $115 last week. You can get into one for pretty cheap. I say go for it.

This is the best post on this subject yet. Most people have their own idea on what a cue hits like. I may think it's the best thing since sliced bread and the next player may think it doesn't feel good at all. Try one and see what you think.

I Tried out a new Joss at my local dealer and the shaft taper was awfull and it was out of round, slightly oval. The other couple Joss cues were just fine and hit very crisp. I bought a Lucasi simply because it fit me well and i liked the way it looked. If i were to buy another cue i sure would give Joss another look.
 
i have a joss from the 1980s 57" 20 oz. the best most balanced q i ever played with. wanted another one talked to danny .he convinced to get his new models this is 4-5 years ago came back 58 " 20 oz . very stiff hit and no where close to the feel hit or the balance of my original . i originally sent him the original q to match them up. when i called to talk to him i did not much customer satisfaction.just my experience
