I might this christmas, but I would rather save up for a good table instead of paying more for my cloth than I did my table.

then get the joss and get a pool table whenever you can. dont waste your $$ on a Z. they are junk.

What about the 314 then, the tip is 12.75mm so it won't be a big adjustment.

This is not an issue about lessons, my stroke is about where I need it, it is the lack of action I have when playing my home table (very slow cloth, so more than 2 feet of draw is hard to come by).

I want more spin on the cue ball and slightly less deflection. It is a pain aiming a whole ball away from the a target that is 4 feet in front of me to compensate for deflection.

Is the 314 durable?

Anyone try the 314 legends packages at seyberts? They come with a moori tip, are they a good investment?

Thanks!

Now I see what this whole thread is about. You want a Predator of some kind...any kind...and you were looking for a majority vote to rationalize your decision. Since you didn't get it on the first one, now you're changing to something else. If you keep going on, this could turn into a 10 page Predator flame war too. Just buy the SOB and be happy. All of the Predatorites will he happy too because they'll have another enlistee to the group. I'll be happy also because I'll know you won't be able to shoot for shit with it. Does that help?

Who said I'm old?? Other than my wifes friends who like to mention we better have kids now...

And I personally would take the 200 sneaky over any 1300 dollar cue...but I'm a plain jane cue guy.....If schon made a 200 dollar sneaky I'd own one (have had one of their steel jointed sneaky's...nice hitting cue)

..........looking forward to my madison bob cue................

i shot with a 314 for a year or so. i got caught up in all the hype. thought it was great. until you go back to a maple shaft you dont realize they suck.

When I started playing more than once every few years, I learned with a 314. It's all about what you're used to. I have a great maple shaft for my cue too, and on shots with heavy english over about 3 feet from CB to OB I start to miss because I'm not used to it. It's not better or worse, just different. I could probably get used to it, and I was planning on trying over the summer. I'll probably just screw my game up, but maybe not.

For the original poster, get the Joss with the regular shaft and play with it for 6 months minimum. Predators seem to ding easy, and even though I don't know for sure, they are probably more expensive. Why start with the most expensive option if you don't know what you'll like?

I wonder if the table at your house has a bad set of balls, and that's why you can't draw the ball. I find it odd that you can draw the cue ball over 9 feet somewhere else, but not at home.

I can draw the ball on slow cloth, or with the oversized cue ball at the bars. It just takes a very good stroke, and perhaps a little more concentration.

Also stick with the joss shaft, not the predator!!! :D

*laughing* Did you miss the line where I said I have a joss shaft sitting in my case because I know I'll buy another joss or schon?

Evan Clarke at schon is fun to talk to about production vs custom. He thinks of himself from what I gather as a CUEMAKER not a big ole production line. First time I called him I sent him a email asking the hours of the office. He replied back that he didn't have a office, he had a cue shop.

Or were you meaning the fact that I have a lovely wife? *laughing to myself*

My modified Joss

This is my current playing cue... it's a Joss TP-02 (retail was $295, but I got it for like $150 on eBay).

First pic was how it originally looked. And the next few pics are how it looks now after I had it modified by Jackson Tan of Viattorre cues. We removed the stain of the forearm...and then I asked for curly maple points with ebony veneers. Long, thin, curly maple points. A nice leather wrap as well. Kept the butt sleeve as is.

Oh... I play using the original shaft... but, I do have a Z shaft for this cue. But, someone did post about it being "night and day" in terms of how these two shafts play... well, that is so true. hehe

Pick a shaft, ferrule and tip, and then stick with it for a while. The Joss regular and Predator Z are soooo different. I had read that the "Z" is a bit too thin for a banger like me, so I have been learning with a "314" on my Mezz, though I'm sure almost anything with a quality tip will be more consistent than what you're using.

Good luck.
